Title: long time lurker/miner here, just found a commercial mining device,is this real ?
Post by: f41lover on July 01, 2011, 02:47:18 AM
I was searching for `asic mining` on google and came up with this : http://asicminer.net (http://asicminer.net)
what do you guys think ? can this be real ? and can somebody create a topic in a more appropriate section ?
im a long time lurker on this forum, but never posted anything  :D

You are asking IF it can be real?  Of course it can be real.  Hashing sha256 is extremely straightforward.  ASIC just require a lot of upfront cash to design.

Truely, 'could' be real. It would be nice if they would have atleast teased us with some numbers or some such.
My gut though, says, "They had me on board until, Guandong, China."

Can it be real that in China they can do it for the cheap ? and what's the catch with Guandong ? as much as i know it is one of the areas in china where they mass produce almost anything electronics.

"We are a team of four foreign specialists in the field of electronic engineering headquartered in Shenzhen..." ZOMG! they are FOREIGN!  ::)

DING!

What exactly do you mean?

Some of their text looked a little bit suspicious to me. It seemed like there were technical inaccuracies that wouldn't happen if they were real. But it's always possible the text isn't written by the technical guys, and there's also the language barrier. So who knows. I wouldn't front them any money though, at least not without something more solid.

WOW, $200 - $250 per 500Mhash?   250x12=$3000
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The general mining device setup will consist of a mainboard with up to 10-12 DIMM slots for the ASIC boards, each one reaching a speed of about 500 Mhash\s.

We are running some prototype devices at about 6-8 Ghash\s on our test network to stress test the boards.

Proper cooling is required for each child board to reach stability and we are working on a solution right now.

Price for the board remains to be defined but it will be probably in the 200-250$ range for each child board, plus the cost of the mainboard and necessary components.

The design is intended to be modular and easily scalable.

Power usage data will be released with the full specifications in the next few days.

Cheers!

The asicminer.net Team

That's points can add easily another 3-4000$ to your calculation. Overall a 6GHash/s rigs can pay itself in 8-9 months even if BTC drops to 10$ and difficulty doubles
