Title: GPU Temps
Post by: xtoro on July 01, 2011, 11:31:02 AM
Since I'm still stuck in the noob forum until I rack up 2 more hours, I'll post here.

I'm running 2 5830 Xtreme's overclocked to 935Mhz and ghetto rigged some extra fans next to my cards until I get my new case.  My GPU's run 73-75 *C.  Is it a safe temp?  Can I bump up the OC even more?

I'm now running at 580-590 Mh/s with this setup.

I believe that 75, while rather warm, is safe.  I have two 5830's-  one has better airflow than the other and it runs under load at around 65.  The other (that is against it) is more like 75.  It gets hotter than that but I rigged up an airchannel so that the case fan can pull heat away from the card which helped a lot.

Originally, my case fan was blowing air on the cards and after a while I figured out that the fans were competing and it was making the card hotter than without the case fan (!).

70+ is not a big problem.
I am concerning the lifetime of the graphic card.
How long will them work when full loaded 7*24

I wouldn't worry about 75. I'd be more worried about the fans. I don't know what speed your running them at, but they are not designed to run at 100% constantly.

General consensus is that keeping the temps under 85C is enough to keep the card operating for a long* time. Of course the lower you keep it the better.

*Long time = Longer than the time it takes for the card to seriously depreciate in value anyway.

In one of my systems the highest temp reached is just under 85C for gpu0 on a 5830. The others are around 82C.  They have been running fine for weeks without any issues. I wouldn't worry about anything unless they are constantly in the upper 80s or lower 90s. This is with 990+ Core and 300 Mem.

I'm running two 6970s in crossfire, both fans at 55% and ambient temp at 22C

They hit 73C under full mining load.

I've got two 6950's (will make them into 6970's eventually) and they run at 67/68*C w/ fans 48/50% respectively. Set via custom curve in afterburner.

Worth noting they're at stock speeds and voltages, no O/C whatsoever.

Keep em' under 90, and downclock your memory for sexier temps and more mh/s
