Title: Help n00b
Post by: AbusiveMeow on July 05, 2013, 07:08:18 PM
I was just curious to know if whether or not it was worth my time to mine with my particular setup. I'm running a Nvidia Gtx 570, however it's the chipset and i'm getting 46.6 Mhashes/s.

Maybe try Litecoin mining, difficulty of BTC probably too high for that hashrate :)

Nvidia cards just dont really cut it for mining. But you should be able to do better with that card. I started out with 3 gtx470's form a machine I used to look for ET with ???(yes I'm a dumb ass).
I am now litecoin mining with 3 7970's. much better.

Try some of the settings from this page for your card to see if you can improve it.

What is your CPU? Sunny's new coin will be CPU only at launch. GPU to come later. Good time to mine when the difficulty is low.

Most alts are scamcoins. Sunny is one of the few devs who believes in innovation. Might take a while to reap profits, but should be a solid investment.

If you use a bitcoin mining calculator (like this one: http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator), you will see that 46.6 Mh/s probably will not earn enough to pay for your electricity. At the current difficulty, you will receive about 0.03 BTC (about $2.30) per month.

Litecoin is probably your best option for longer-term mining. Take a look at this page: http://dustcoin.com/mining.

The others that are not listed are speculative and/or pump-and-dump schemes, and are only worthwhile if you can sell them at a high price before they die (in my opinion).
