I have $5,000 sitting on an exchange that I'd like to use for investment in altcoins. I'm currently registered with Bittrex, Coinbase and Cryptopia. 

I currently hold

BTC Bitcoin
LTC Litecoin
XRP Ripple
XLM Lumen
FTC Feathercoin (small amount from several years ago)
DOGE Dogecoin (mostly for the LOLs, only $35 bucks worth)


I'd like to spread this $5,000 between multiple coins, preferably ones that are currently priced between $5.00 and $.001, although I'm open to all suggestions on coins that cost more.  I've never really done great at picking coins myself and there seem to be hundreds so it's very hard to research them all. If you were in my position (or a similar one), what coins would you buy?

$5000 is already a huge amount. I suggest that you diversify it and not just invest on a single coin. There are lots of coins with high potential and good developers behind that you can buy for low amount. My suggestions are Cardano (ADA), IOTA, ARK, Xtrabytes (XBY) and PoSToken. Those are just my personal choice but it will be much better if you will do your own research rather than based your decision on advise. Just treat our advise as your guide in investing.

You can distribute your capital for a greater number of coins is to choose a more conservative strategy. And part leave the bitcoin part. Part of your coins are worthy of attention. Can choose 5 coins of the top 10 and 5, which are more risky, but where there are good growth

I would buy only Bitcoin and several hundred thousands Doges for LOL. Then, if I feel myself a bit bored with this strategy I would use a hundred fiat or two to bet into something new like ICO may be, or find a coin of a sort which can possibly x10.

I'd consider adding Ethereum (Ether "ETH") to your stack, to be sure you've covered your bases. Lots of potential for its tech and good growth historically speaking.

Because they are relatively expensive... I doubt we will see many coins go from 200-700 up to 10k like bitcoin. Trying to find something cheap that goes from .001 to $10 or from $5 to $50, etc

invest in litecoin, forget all the btc forks. Litecoin can be used as actual currency due to the transaction fees.

Bitcoin, litecoin and ripple are okay, even though I can't say they are very good coins, they will probably give you some profit if you hold them enough. But as they are very high now, especially bitcoin and litecoin, it would turn a bad investment as well. Whether a project is good or not is one of the factors you should look at, but beside that the most vital thing is the price you are buying.

If you're lazy to search each Altcoin to choose to invest then choose Top Altcoins because they have already proven their stability in the market. Me personally, nothing more secure and having a peace of mind on investing Altcoins that are already on top and they continue growing together with their community.
Whether you own a couple Ethereum coins and a thousand coins that only valued a hundred dollar that will matter after few months of investment.
Think twice and Check RPay if you do give a chance to the Crypto underdogs. RPay is one of the best ICOs currently on sale today. It's a god project and the team are awesome.

That portfolio will secure your investment because Bitcoin will surely offers you more profits than Altcoins. Half of your investments will turn into a full slice after half a year.
50% Bitcoin and all 50% Altcoins will give you peace of mind.

Yeah always split your investment. BTC is a pretty safe bet, just as ETH or LTC.

Put 50% - 70% in a safe bet coin, and the distribute the rest into coins with potential. Bitcore, Vertcoin, NEM or Ardor... just read-up and make an informed decision

first order of business, stop using bittrex, they are a shady exchange who will rob you blind if they wanted. you can check the scam accusation board or their topic on bitcointalk for more information.

second, i would drop XRP for now, it doesn't seem like a wise investment at the moment and any rise it has doesn't seem to have enough "steam" to push it to a proper pump which can give you a half decent profit.

obviously your bitcoin investment is good.
i also like the LTC investment but only if you are in it for the USD profit not BTC because LTC is dropping against BTC for the time being.
you can also add bitcoin cash to it, because it is having a good month and it seems to be following bitcoin for the most part and the manipulators are pumping it these days.

You could probably add Ethereum and XEM to your list but before adding these coins make sure you check the market cap first, supply and all of that if it fits your criteria on the coins you wanted to invest in and not just because people are suggesting you to buy and invest on these coins.

why do not you choose ethereum? if you currently have $5000 that means you can earn 10 eth or more and next year your assets may reach $10,000 because I believe in next year eth will rise drastically.

I think any of those coins to invest can be profitable in a long term, but if you're having panic well its not good because you might lose that $5000 in the future without any profit. Any coins that is having good impact to their respective communities will be worth to hold and will surely gain good price by the time those upcoming investors will turn their money to alts as part of diversion from very expensive bitcoin price. Actually after the dumps of most of the alts now we can experience better pump for next year altcoins journey.

For a $ 5000 investment in altcoin I think is pretty good and could make a profit if for a long time. if you want to hold altcoin for the long term, ethereum may be more prospective if in the long run...I see a significant increase of ethereum in this year. maybe next year ethereum can reach more than $ 1000...

Hello, if you plan to invest for half a year or more, then I chose the following coins BTC-50%, ETH-25%,the rest of the money equally divided into WAVES, LSK, KMD, STRAT, NEO, ARK, GNT

I advise you to invest Ethereum, Populous, Everex, Ethos, Doge, Lisk and Guppy. When you reach an 2x from one of these, sell it and distribute this money to others again.

Investment diversification is very important in other to safeguard your capital. I Will advise that to invest some in an upcoming ICO that has greater future ahead such as Graft which the ICO will commence by 18th January 2018 and you can equally invest some existing altcoins and Bitcoin  with different percentage of your capital.

I'd recommend EOS and ADA.

Stratis, Ethereum, Ripple, Doge, Waves, Edo, Qash, Iota .....  Just a few of the altcoins  in my wallet  that I think will be very much valued. There are a few good Ico's this month,  I plan to participate.

If I wanted to invest 5000 then I would buy Ethereum immediately. Then coins like Eos / XMR / OMG  on 30% and on the rest of cheap alts that are not expensive - recently found for myself RLC - it seems to me that within 3-6 months it will grow well (a lot of news will be soon)

You already have a sufficient amount of coins or money to actually invest on as many coins as possible, just research on the coins' market popularity, supply, and demand then you can risk some amount for investments and then trust your prejudice. Hope you do good.

Definitely do your own research but my pick would be IOTA.I really think it's going to be alongside ETH as a serious contender soon.

Id suggest you to go for Ark,KMD,NEO,Stratis,Lomo,UBQ,NAV and SAFEX.
SAFEX together with NEO will also bring you dividents just for keeping them safe in your wallets ;)

50% in BTC for a peace of mind and others spend in XMR , XRP , LTC . But if we talking about long term and probably great profit - take a look at IOTA and AION

when Im buying coins that I plan to keep for long time and wait until it give me high profit Im looking on top 10 coins and check how it is going by looking on the chart for past days, weeks and even months.

Speaking of the truth, Edo have the potential, i see that after their partnership with 2 ico which are ethlend and aidcoin and all of these sold 100% by using their ICO engine, in the upcoming time maybe so many ico will try to use their services and they require EDO to use this ICO engine, really have potential here, and their hybrid exchange aswell.
but ethereum also will switch to POS, it has now pumped but still tons of opportunity.
for ICO, Universa, ETHLend those two really good.

You need to invest in good infrastructure projects. Where there is a ready-made prototypes. Let STRAT, NEBLIO, ADA, NEO, WAVES, LISK, ARK they will grow well.
To look at can Xel, gup, ardor, sys, SHIFT is also very promising projects in my opinion.
DASH there with bitcoin is going to struggle next year. Think also needed in the portfolio

Eth is good coin for long run, but i see the chart and realize that time to buy Eth is not now. Eth will be in dip in the week of Christmas.

At the moment, a very good time. You can choose strong coins from the number of those that have fallen in price recently. I pay attention to top coins and do not invent anything much.  But if you have a lot of time, you can find promising coins that will bring more profit.

it is better to start your own exchange service here and gain fast in short time .

better BTC ,XRP Ripple and XLM

On the forum in the "Altcoins" section there is a branch of this coin and there everyone shares the news that they find. Or you can find their twitter and watch announcements. There is a lot of information - I like and I read. But it's better decide for yourself and not listen to others

You can provide $2,500 for waves. It's a great Project they only miss marketing.

I'm not gonna say the same things that aldready in your portfolio. You don't ether, please get some about $1,500 and hold it. You can also buy ETC too, the expectation is high from it.

i think my fireind you should spread this money on different coins first bitcoin in order to have bitcoin diamond after the fork and you should also invest it in other alts like electroneum because many are expecting this alt to grew in few up coming months.

If i were you I would only invest all my 5000$ in the best altcoin for now, it's Ethereum. It's has very good potential in the future, even better than Bitcoin, the best cryptocurrency for now. Maybe in next 5 years I believe that the price of Ethereum can higher than Bitcoin if ETH price keep increasing like this year, more than 4000% from the early of this year until now.

If you are planning to holf for long time, I advise to invest in new tokens linked to good projects like NIO, PRIX, GVT and many others.
I expect WAVES and STRATIS also ro rise the next year.

Correctly said! The forum is really a lot of information about coins, successful ICO and others, but at the same time it is not so easy to make the right choice, because the market is crypto-currency, relatively unstable.

You can buy ethereum, waves, minex, gup and xrp :)
All off these have rising potential. You should check this coins. Especially minex is best :)

you chose good coins but I would also advise you to pay attention to coins that have less capitalization. They have a higher growth potential and, consequently, a higher profit margin.

Pay your attention on xem, bitshares, comsa, cardano

You have really much money to spread it wisely. Try to do it the following way: get 20-25% of Ethereum, 15% of NEO, 20% of Litecoin and Ripple, buy also DASH (about 12-15%) and leave something for some alts that cost less, Cardano for example.
