Title: How secure is Linuxcoin and how to your graph your data from remote view
Post by: mackminer on July 01, 2011, 04:34:08 PM
Hi,
Do I need to do any work to make my rig secure? Currently it's behind a nat router with private address' in my home network.

I also want to display machine data using something like this http://ox.westgrid.ca/temps/

Where should I set up the webserver and what's the best way to get data to it?

As long as you aren't opening any ports in your firewall for it you should mostly be good to go.  However, I would definitely as least recommend changing the password for the "user" account from "live" to something that's actually secure.  Other than that -- well, it is Debian GNU/Linux, which isn't exactly a security lightweight (it's not going to have the same vulnerabilities as, say, running an unpatched version of Windows XP).

If you are worried about security, just install full ubuntu desktop, set ssh and mine with it. There is bunch of software you could use to monitor it and make charts.
