Title: My 5830 x 2 rig is only pulling about 260 OCed Help!!
Post by: CoolHand144 on July 01, 2011, 05:00:50 PM
Im running GUIMiner and i just added another card and it brought my hash rate to about 255-260 from about 220.  I feel like the second card should be working better than that.  They currently aren't crossfired i am running them with a second monitor.  Hot do i see the 400ish that i should get from these 2 cards?  I am also overclocking them to 875 and downclocking the memory to 900.  I havent flashed the BIOS of either card. (cuz i dont know how and dont trust myself to do it right)  How do i optimize the performance of this rig?

you should down clock the memory to 300 and see what happens. 300 is the standard for the 5830.

Download MSI Afterburner
Install it
Browse to the installed folder for MSI Afterburner
Find the file called "MSIAfterburner.cfg"
Edit it using Notepad
Search for this in the file:

[ATIADLHAL]
EnableUnofficialOverclocking   = ?
UnofficialOverclockingEULA   = ?
UnofficialOverclockingMode   = ?

Make the [ATIADLHAL] section look like this:

[ATIADLHAL]
EnableUnofficialOverclocking   = 1
UnofficialOverclockingEULA   = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
UnofficialOverclockingMode   = 2
AccessibilityCheckingPeriod   = 0

Save the file

Open Afterburner
Click on "Settings" button
Select the "Synchronize settings for similar graphics processors" (make sure it's checked if you have two of the same cards)
Click OK

Reduce the memory to 600 MHz (some cards may be different at this stage like maybe 700 Mhz; you have to find stable point)
Click Apply
Close AfterBurner

Open AfterBurner
Reduce the memory to 350 MHz
Click Apply
Close AfterBurner
Open After Burner
Reduce the memory to 300 Mhz
Increase the CPU speed to 980 Mhz
Click Apply

Run your miners.
My 5830 Miners are doing 310 MH/s each.

If you need more help on setting up the miners let me know.

Have you installed the July 1st update from GUI miner? They made some significant changes, and people are getting ~10MH/s and higher speed increases.

Which miner and which (if any) flags are you using?

I hope you didn't mean '400ish' but rather '300ish' on each GPU.
400 Mhash/s can be achieved on 5850 @ 960-1000Mhz

If he is using a previous version of guiminer(also not sure of how it works in current one) wouldn't he need to make a new miner (tab) for each gpu?

Sounds to me like only 1 of your GPUs is running... Are you using DEVICE=0 & DEVICE=1 in separate instances of your miner?
