Title: [ANN] What is the Bitcoin price? - new price tool
Post by: Chaz on July 06, 2013, 12:48:34 PM
What is the Bitcoin price?
whatisthebitcoinprice.com (http://www.whatisthebitcoinprice.com/)

Hi everyone, thought I would give myself a little weekend project.  After looking at the current market share of MtGox declining, their price is becoming less relevant each day.  So I thought there might be a better way to calculate the price of a bitcoin.  The website collates all this information from all exchanges (thanks to BitcoinCharts) and produces a more accurate picture of what the price of a bitcoin is.  The price takes into account latest trade, current bid/ask, how long ago the last trade was and volume.

JSON encoded data is provided for developers and merchants.  It covers all the currencies and includes price, last_updated and volume.

Let me know of any bugs.  Feedback is much appreciated!

Cheers!

Nice. How do you estimate the uptime? We might use this for Inputs (and stop paying for forex rates).

Also, if you add an inputs.io/1v.io address there we'll tip you :)

It's currently on a shared host, so this will have to be monitored.  I wouldn't jump on this straight away for production environments.  I literally bought the domain name and made the site in the same day lol.

Yes once it has been tested a bit a section showing what websites use it with little logos would be good :)

I'm going to integrate this and fallback to the current system if we're unable to fetch the rates. Thanks!

I like this new service a lot. It's replaced my old quick standby Preev.com
