Title: Looking for your Graphics Card advice.
Post by: ganigani5 on December 03, 2017, 07:17:25 PM
I have been mining with my R9 390 8gb gaming pc as a hobby for couple of months now. And it has been very profitable for me so far. Where I live electric is cheap, and my currency is constantly losing value against US Dollar (I'm from Turkey, so thanks erdogan lol). I am ready to invest more into my hobby. And turn it into a small invesment.

Please note that, prices here in Turkey are nearly Equal to european prices for cards.

I have figured out what do buy for everything else.

So here is my list;

Intel - Celeron G3930 2.9GHz Dual-Core Processor

Biostar - TB250-BTC ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

G.Skill - Aegis 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory

120GB HI-LEVEL 120GB 2.5 SATA III 550/530 ULTRA

CORSAIR PRO HX-1200 1200W

6 Risers and 1 m.2 Adaptor

At this point I still can't decide what card to buy. I will buy 7 cards.

I have checked whattomine.com and cryptocompare. GTX 1070 looks better for a long run, better at zcash and other altcoins mining. But for a price of GTX 1070 I can buy a RX 580 and a RX 560. Or two RX 570 4gb.

Also Zotac GTX 1070 Minis are relatively cheaper, but I have read mixed comments about those. What is your advice?

Thank you very much all!

if you are looking for a good price and efficency you should choose the gtx 1060. you can run up to 24 mh/s on ethash (+- 90 watt) or 330 sol equihash (+- 100 w) even with the 3gb version. since this whole dag thing doesn't matter anymore you can mine with the 3gb at least 2-3 years without problems.

this is a good choice if you have high energy cost in your country.

if you have a little bit more money take the 1070 ti - incredible card :)

NICE

OK then its easy choice Pick the card that gives most Hash per $

Nvidia will be 1060 3gb
and Radeon will be 570 4gb

where do you live?

those will enough? really ? it lowers my investment so its great.

I live in turkey, at home its like 0.06 per KWH. but I have my own company in an industrial area, where I have goverment incentive, so it is 0.03 per KWH :)

The AMD cards are also a bit harder to configure. Nvidia cards are basically just plug adjust in aferburner and mine.

I have 1060/1070 and 1070 Ti and prefer the last two cards as they just have more muscles. It is true that the 1060 probably has the best price/performance spot but less punch. A 1070 rig will also produce more heat.

I'm also from Turkey, I'm building my first rig right now. I thought about going for rx vega 64(it has the same price with rx vega 56 for some reason in turkey). But in the end I'm buying 4x 1070TI instead of 3x vega64s. The reason is; it is just better for future. It has better resell value, it can mine different algos better, it is basically plug and mine with some OC and power limiting on afterburner.

Monero mining with rx vega is insanely profitable atm but you never know whats going to happen so I like to have more options just in case. Also as a gamer I prefer nvidia over amd and I might use one or two of those cards on my gaming rig if everything else fails.

so in case of ROI - vega 56 properly configured - now the best choice. because of crazy fast return on cryptonight coins
but it is very difficult to proper configure it and the rigs from vega works unstable.
so I agree with ixonite - choose gtx1070ti - it is more expensive then gtx1070 - like 5-8%, but you will receive more performance boost like 15-20% - which is nice.
and there is problem with nv card, just plug and mine!

Ah nice to see someone doing mining as a hobby with his gaming PC. I would like to follow your way but I think I have to build a new rig with semi- professional spesification to start my first computer mining.
I will be happy if someone can make a list of computer specifications : Medium budget and simple configuration.

hey man, thanks! I put my ideas into a spreadsheet and did some calculations. getting 4 GTX 1070 Ti s gives me the same performance as 6 GTX 1060s with less power and for the same price. Looks like I am also going to get 4 of them. Which one did you go for? and also from which Turkish retailer?

Why no one mentioning 1080TI? Its the best card for you since your electricity price is so low. Sure its more expensive but if you count on it, in EU the 1080ti is best price per hash.

well I didn't even add it because of the price. I will add it to my sheet.

You might want to consider zotac 1070 or palit super jetstream. They maybe cheap but still gets the work done. You should buy atleast 6 gb cards for future proofing amd yes 1070 is the best option. If you are into modding bios which may void the warranty go for 570s but if you want a plug and play, go for 1070. 1070s after market sales are better than amds I think.

https://i.hizliresim.com/4Gy5GG.png so this is my chart with the prices. Total price is the total system price. Please note that prices are in Turkish Lira. I took GTX 1070 as referrence for the indexing of all.

I bought them from Inventus Türkiye , they are really good with their customer service. I got MSI GTX1070TI Aero, its one of the most basic models and the price is same with GTX1070 models but since the power need of 1070TI is really low with some adjustments I thought I would not need some fancy 3 fan card. I talked to them today and I think they still have more in their stocks.

1080TI in turkey is ridiculously expensive, it starts around 1100 USD(4300 TL). I would not recommend it, ROI would take soo much more time with them. Maybe if you can find some used ones that might work though.

I like the RX 580 4GB Pulse. They are very cool they're mining cryptonight. The fan speed of 35%. The temperature of the chip 35 degrees Celsius. In the summer, with 55% fan speed the chip is heated to 50 degrees. There is no reason to buy the RX 8 GB. No addition of speeds does not. If competently approach to the construction of towers that you can save about 30% of the cost.
