Is this file which contains my bitcoins in my wallet? This is the file i must protect?

Yes that's electrum's wallet file.

Although it can't hurt to protect your wallet it's not completely necessary. It's fully encrypted (I'm assuming you setup a password when you created it) and it's completely deterministic so if your disk crashes for what ever reason you can always restore it from the seed.
