End of 2014 seems reasonable. Bitcoin is full of surprises though ;)

Is all this really so important?

What bitcoin really needs are some special use cases that provide real value.

Also some stability would be preferable to massive growth.

IMO a Bitcoin that is traded at $1 put provides a true alternative to existing payment providers and currency as well as a save heaven for value is "worth" more than an overinflated Bitcoin at $10,000 that could collapse any second.

Would someone really want to store his live savings in a currency that could loose half it's value in one day? This person would not sleep well a single night.

For this reason alone I don't think we will see some massive growth in the short to mid term. Bitcoin will need to proof first that it can actually hold some value before serious investors will risk to put their money into it or enough time needs to pass that the latest events can be forgotten.

Doesn't PPCoin inflate to adjust to normal outside world prices. It could be used as a hedge for those not looking for a strong gold like currency.

Can't have one without the other. Bitcoin can't possibly be stable at $1, since that would imply a market cap of at most $21M. All it takes is for some eccentric millionaire to think "Hey, this Bitcoin thing seems like a good place to dump my millions!" and the price skyrockets overnight. But at $10,000, with a $210B market cap, the price will not affected so easily.

He said "before long", and it hasn't yet been long. Unless you consider 3 months to be a long time. ::)

I think it's reasonable to expect there to be another bubble at some point in the future, history tends to repeat itself. It might be one or two years.

Bubbles coincide with euphoria, and for that to happen we obviously have to shoot higher than the current bubble did (nobody is going to get excited for $260 again - we need to go much higher.) Maybe passing $1000 will be the thing that TRIGGERS the next bubble, I don't know.

Yes, I believe this as well. But honestly from a contrarian point of view, it's a bit unsettling to see how many people believe that bitcoin will keep rising, and there will be a next bubble coming up.  90% of the "bears" on the forums are actually mid-term bears but long-term bulls.

People that claim that bitcoin will never do X, have been proven wrong quite some times before.  Can you give a good argument why bitcoin will never reach $1000?

I can give you this:
I bet all my money and btc in that. Thats all i have to say. Something that has no physical substance is limited. Thats the big truth. Noone understands. I do.
BTC may go as low as 1 BTC = 1 US Dollar and as high as 1 Gold Pound, but thats it.

If those ASIC companies were never created, the coin would reach $1000 for sure. Now it cant.

I disagree with you here... The miners certainly have an effect on the price of BTC, however they don't control it. If anything, it's caused BTC to drop, and it will continue to drop even more over time, then it will come back like a Phoenix Rising from the Ashes.

I Totally agree with you in the part where the Phoenix will rise from the ashes but for this to happen, they must all stop mining, wait for the difficulty to drop, then re-start again but, will the demand rise again? Given in time, other coins may have more power e.x Litecoin, which seems pretty stable at the time.

On the other hand, if things go like it is, BTC will get centralized for sure, 100%. And yes, then its all over unless the community reacts (in teams).

I predict Bitcoin will hit 1000 during a spike in Spring 2014, but won't have a stable 1000 price until around October 2014.

Given the shitstorm (TM) preparing in the bank system somewhere (probably France, Germany or Italy) BTC could hit 1.000$ before years end.
There is nothing pushing bitcoin like some financial meltdown somewhere.

Guys, bubbles are a bad think expect for a hand full of speculators. A bubble means there will be a crash afterwards, that hurts the legitimacy of Bitcoin.

How about a steady and real growth instead?

Bitcoin worth less then 1$

First Bubble -> Bitcoin hit 30$

Bitcoin steady worh 5-7~ USD after that bubble.

Second bubble -> Bitcoin 250$

Bitcoin steady worth 80-100 $

Third Bubble -> Bitcoin 750 $

bitcoin steady worth 200 $

every bubble leaves us a bit more worth coins

How about long dry spells with a few unpredicted and random bubbles instead?

Steady growth on a log chart looks somewhat exponential, and not everyone views Bitcoin the same way, so bubbles will happen, it is part of the distribution mechanism, and so is the random time between them (or lack of a guaranteed bubble), even a steady decline helps distribute the coins, this is what allows Bitcoin to grow, embrace volatility it will add value to the few coins you manage save.

The love for tulips was propagated by a bubble, they can't be all bad, see tulips are everywhere now.
