They invested the amount they got from the Facebook settlement into Bitcoin and they are now running Gemini exchange. I'm not surprised and I'm expecting bitcoin to be the cause of making more billionaires in the future.

If Roger Ver really does have several hundred thousand bitcoins then he would also be a billionaire.

Well, I am a fan of whoever is beciminh big time in cryptocuurencies as long as it was earned in a good way.
And I am guessing that they are rich already when they got in to bitcoins. Since they will need an amount to make profit from.
Congratulations to them though.
I am not aiming to be that rich, I just wanted to fill in the needs of my family and some for their not too much expensive luxury.

Off course the creators hold more bitcoins than anyone else in this whole world.. I don't think that these brothers are really the one's holding most number of bitcoins. It's just that the REAL billionaires are hiding their identity. The creator definetely have had kept some kind lf gateway for themselves as a back door entry. That being said bitcoin still is the safest and a reliable investment asset.

Well, I am not sure if they are Billionaires yet, but they are multi-millionaires. Here are some more people who have reached multi

millionaire status that we know of --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpO3bnccpVM .... We will never have a accurate list of

the richest Bitcoiners out there, because Bitcoin is pseudo anonymous and people have a right to protect their financial status. We

know for sure that Satoshi Nakamoto will be the richest Bitcoiner, IF he/she access the million or more coins in those addresses.  ;)

Wow does it really matter now who owns the more or less bitcoin. I mean the comparison would be ridiculous after seeing 100 thousands bitcoin into one persons possesion. That’s too much money in today’s date and I’m happy that people like these do exist who believed in the ultimate fate of bitcoin and held them for so long. It’s really not a joke to even have 10K bitcoin in our possession because it’s anyway equal to billions with current rate of bitcoin. If they hold the bitcoin for more two to three years then also they will become impossible billionaires in short period of time becaus the price then would be more than 50K itself. :-0

Weren't those bitcoins meant to back their proposed Bitcoin ETF, not just to serve as their personal holdings? Doesn't make much of a difference at this point though, I guess.

Good for them. At current BCH / BTG valuations, that's more than USD 180,000,000 in fork coins alone.

There are people with more bitcoins than the winklevoss brothers, but they are still pretty high in the bitcoin ranks.

I remember back then when they invested $11 million on BTC, then it crashed, everyone made fun of them. Now they are billionaires and they are ones laughing.

Oh and to put things in perspective, Zuckerberg has $70+ billion, so we will still go way higher because it doesn't make sense shitbook is worth more than BTC.

I am not sure whether the Winklevii are the first Bitcoin millionaires. Roger Ver claims that he is having some 250,000 Bitcoins (he may have converted a part of that to BCH). Satoshi owns some 980,000 although no one knows whether he is dead or alive.

well they are running a big bitcoin exchange platform called Gemeni. having that kind of bitcoin capital is not really a big deal unless this amount is 100% separate from their exchange funds.

There are probably a few Bitcoin billionaires out there. They aren’t all going to broadcast their wealth which is kind of the point if cryptocurrencies. We don’t want everyone to know what we have and where we have it. Even those of us that aren’t wealthy will most likely have multiple addresses that we use. I’m sure that the millionaires and billionaires have their Bitcoins spread out in different wallets. There’s almost no way to know how many Bitcoins people are holding.

I first came across Winklevoss Twins in 2013 when they invested $11 million of their payout from Facebook into Bitcoin in 2013.
They recently invested $1.5 million in seed funding of BitInstant, a bitcoin payment processor the same year.
They now owned and operate Gemini & Winkdex. I knew these boys are going to become billionaires they are just waiting for the time, trust me! :)

Well its becoming confusing we need forbes to get a list of top bitcoin HODLers. A whole lot seems to believe the idea of satoshi nakamoto secretly holding around million of bitcoins in his cold storage while the other lot says the jesus of bitcoin Roger Ver is the richest. And now this article seems to give another new idea.

The Winklevoss twins - Bitcoin billionaire is the first news on my flip board and news column. I have heard that they invested the money they got from Facebook in Bitcoins. I guess Satoshi Nakamoto who is said to be the creator of bitcoin holds the biggest stock of Bitcoin and maybe second on this list is the United States government.

I've never heard of these brothers. They are great. To invest such a big amount of money in 2013 in bitcoin it is necessary to have great courage. Possible through their investments of bitcoin began to rise in price and this contributed to the growth of its popularity. We are now enjoying the fruits of their and such as they are. The most important thing to prevent the possibility of control over bitcoin by the government.

Actually, they received about 65 million dollars in the settlement and invested about 11 million dollars into Bitcoin.  They've only invested a relatively small portion of their earnings.

BTC creators i guess
We're purely talking about the coins that they are known to have bought in early 2013.

The coins which are believed to be owned by satoshi have not been moved, and we have no reason to believe that the Winklevoss twins are satoshi.

It is important to note though - if satoshi is one person, then they most likely became a billionaire long before these two did.

I guess Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, would be having more bitcoins in his wallets, if his private keys are kept safe after all these years.
Btw, Winklevoss Twins as a team can be said billionaires but individually they are just Millionaires !
It's great to see such news about bitcoins, which ultimately raises awareness about cryptocurrency amongst the common people too.

Read the summary of the book "Digital Gold" Nathaniel Popper is the chronology of events from the very beginning of the creation of bitcoin! there figures besides twins of Winklevoss there are many more entrepreneurs and developers who have a fortune not less than twins, for example, Wences Casares, CEO of the cryptowallet Xaro and a member of the board of directors of PayPal

Roger Ver is a billionaire as well based on the wealth he has. If we have to believe various sources, he is stated to have over 200K BTC, and that alone is enough for more than $2 billion. Mark Karpeles is billionaire as well. Not sure how much Bitcoin wealth Jihan Wu holds, but it wouldn't surprise me if he turns out to be a billionaire as well by now. I wonder if Forbes at some point will put Satoshi on their list, even though it's unknown who he/she or they are. If we go from Satoshi having 1 million coins, which no one here can be sure about, he's worth over $11 billion at current levels.

Is it not the same guys that claim that they created bitcoin but they were not taken seriously by the community. If they the first billionaires, then good for them but if by multiplying the amount of the alleged coins they own with the value today and then say they worth a billion dollars, then that would be wrong because there is no evidence to proof that they actually have that amount, there is also no way to  determine if they have not sold a large chunk of the bitcoin they have, and they would only worth that amount, if they sell today which is obviously what they are not doing. In short, they are unrealized billionaires and can turn to millionaires before the end of the week.

Plenty of the 'early' days bitcoins that were mined have simply been lost because novices did not know how to move them around between hard drive to hard drive, as well as those being lost on USB drives and lost keys.

Without doubt the creator of bitcoins is bound to be the richest bitcoin holder ever, there is no way that he wouldn't have saved some bitcoins for himself, if he has made all these people billionaires, it would be really ironic if he isn't a billionaire himself.

It is inspiring to know that there our people who have success through having investment to bitcoin. And it is also a good thing that they also offer too an opportunity for us to earn because they handle a Gemini exchange that is a vital part for bitcoin development because it could be used on transaction of different exchange with the used of bitcoin or any form of crypto-currencies.

I like this. :) Its nice to see stories in the media about bitcoin that illustrate it as something other than a safe haven for tax evaders, illicit drug users, terrorists and criminals. Crypto needs more success stories like this to show its potential to humanity and the innovation it can offer over traditional assets such as precious metals or fiat. Bitcoin has a lot to offer the world, stories like this which grasp peoples imagination and illustrate some of its potential are great for crypto.

The Winklevoss Twins seem like decent celebrities. In the future they could become "ambassadors of bitcoin". Maybe two of the better poster boys for crypto we've seen thus far.

This was indeed a great investment for them.

I am suprised to see, that noone posted or discussed the richlists of the bitcoin blockchain. Even though it might be easy to split the money into different addresses, one could easily check the wallets surpassing or not surpassing the amount of the Winklevoss Twins. They by the way just recently invested in the Blockstack ICO.

I think there are a lot more bitcoin billionaires out there but they are just not making their wealth and the money they made public because they want to keep the public eye off of themselves.

That is probably very true. Some people have made their wealth known or overplayed their wealth for self-promotion advertising purposes and others have tried their best to just stay under the radar and enjoy their wealth without having the need to use a loudspeaker to shout from the rooftops about how many Bitcoins they have.

After going through the horrible experience of the whole Facebook situation I am so glad the Winklevoss twins invested the very same money the Courts forced Facebook to pay them. They invested around $11 million dollars buying Bitcoin for around $100 each. They ended up with around 110,000 Bitcoin directly as a result of the money received from Facebook and now look where we are. Zuckerbergs personal weealth and Facebooks market capital has fallen as a result of various issues surrounding user data being misued and legal implications leading on to billions in fines in multiple vicinites. The US will do what they have to do to punish and reign in Facebook (for a while at least), the same will apply to the European Union.

While Zuckerberg and Facebook take a financial beating and have their reputation in tatters and face international lawsuits, the Winklevoss twins have kept a low profile and not seeked out any publicity. The Winklevoss twins have kept a diginified silence throughout and thoroughly deserve their wealth. I cannot recall them ever trying to influence the path of Bitcoin and force through forks like other whales have done. They seem like really nice people.

The irony is that within a couple of years if that, their Bitcoin holding alone with be worth more than Zuckerbergs Facebook stock and they managed to get there thanks to the penatly the Courts forced Facebook to pay the Winklevoss twins. Great karma :)

News media around the world is reporting that the Winklevoss twins are the world first bitcoin billionaires, stating they own 100,000 bitcoins. Congratulations to them.

Does anyone know who the other bitcoin whales are?
If this news is true then I would like to congratulate them because for me, owning a single bitcoin is very very big and they are holding 100000 bitcoin, then obviously they are the cryptocurrency whale and there could be many more people who are the cryptocurrency whales. It further depends on what time one come to know about cryptocurrency and started investing into it. As early as you came to know about this, the more the bitcoin you own, for now, I just want to know a single bitcoin.

I recall reading something like they received some $46 million as part of their settlement which allowed Facebook to avoid accepting they did anything wrong by stealing the Winklevoss twins' ideas but it wa sa convenient way to reach a settlelment.

I think they invested some $11 million of that money in Bitcoin and now have an exchange of their own as well. I congratulate them, they deserve success. Even though it seems like they paid a coder to make a website for them and it seems that coder stole their idea and launched a website for Harvard students called "thefacebook.com" they could have let it go but as a matter of principle they did not. They started litigation on the basis of matters of principle and in my view were entitled to billions in Facebook shares and not just $46 million.

I do not think that they are BTC creators. They would have disclosed this if they were as they would have got good promotion with such an announcement.

I think many people own Bitcoin more than 100,000Bitcoin, but they are probably making a profit by controlling this market silently. Many Crypto billionaires do not reveal their identities because they know that this can be dangerous to them and that they can become the target of criminal crime.

Anonymity is essential to many big and small players for a variety of reason. Becoming victims of crime, hacking, abductions or stings is probably top of the list but there could be many reasons why people do not announce their holdings. If I were a whale I would keep it quiet and not announce it to the world.

Many bitcoins at the start of the day in the mine have been lost as beginners do not know how to move them between hard drives to their other hard drives, as well as missing ones on USB drives and lost personal keys. 8)

This is true, you are absolutely right. There are too many people in the early days that lost coins and even now newbies make some errors resulting in lost coins. Even seasoned users can make errors too.

Not creators mate, but I think they can be more considered as early adopters. I think many early adopters have really harvested a lot from the risks they took during the time the cryptocurrency market was starting. Many people, years ago, didn't believe that cryptocurrency would make it this far and would be this big. Before, they just saw it as a scheme that would not prosper, so many people who have encountered it at first didn't believe in its potential. The exception or the few who did are now getting the fruits of the seeds they planted before. Lucky them!

You can easily mine bitcoins during that time with a cpu but now the difficulty gets higher and higher.

So those pioneers who bought, mined and got interest to bitcoin made their fortune for knowing and trusting bitcoin in the first place.

I think they were from a rich prominent family long before they went to Harvard and long before they fell victim to Zuck.

Fortunately for them they had the foresight to invest in Bitcoin but at $100 each. Reports suggested they purchased $11 million worth of Bitcoin so that gave them around 110,000 Bitcoin which today at around $7500 each means a total value of $825 million. That might not be the only time purchased Bitcoin, they never made it public.

So we know Winklevoss twins have over 110,000 Bitcoin. How many Bitcoins are owned by Satoshi Nakamoto whoever (he/she/they/it) is? And before you start posting numbers provide some evidence of his Satoshi's holdings too.

You can LOL all you like but they are holding more than 110,000 Bitcoin whereas you might have less than 0.001 for all we know. They were not Facebook wannabes they were the actual brains behind the concept of what Facebook went on to become.

They never used a loan to buy Bitcoin. They used around 25% of the money the judge ordered Facebook to pay them for the way they were treated. They used around $11 million of their own money to buy over 100,000 Bitcoin. So if it was as you put it "easy to get a few loans and invest in an emerging vehicle and when you strike big you claim to be some kind of prophet" then what stopped you from getting loans and buying Bitcoin or any altcoin?

The Winklevoss twins never looked for publicity the way Roger Ver did and continues to do, so maybe your mentioning of prophets is related to him and Bitcoin Jesus (or Bitcoin Judas) tag depending on how you perceive him.

So while you LOL and put the Winklevoss twins down another day goes by where they get more rich and you, well, you are LOL'ing and not doing much else

Yes, creators have more Bitcoin than anyone in the world. You do not think that these people really are the ones holding the bulk of Bitcoin. It's just that real billionaires hide their identities. The creators must have kept some sort of gate for themselves as a back door. Bitcoin investments bring them to new wealth, perhaps more people like them to be followed and also featured as billionaire Bitcoin.

I see nothing vocal about them, they are not seeking publicity like other whales. Nobody would say "no" to being a whale. If you had 100,000 Bitcoin and were a whale would you give them up for the sake of a perceived decenralisation? I doubt it :)

Wow does it truly make a difference now who claims the pretty much bitcoin. I mean the examination would be ludicrous in the wake of seeing 100 thousands bitcoin into one people possesion. That is excessively cash in the present date and I'm glad that individuals like these do exist who put stock in a definitive destiny of bitcoin and held them for so long. It's truly not a joke to try and have 10K bitcoin in our ownership since it's at any rate equivalent to billions with current rate of bitcoin. In the event that they hold the bitcoin for more a few years then additionally they will wind up incomprehensible very rich people in brief timeframe becaus the value at that point would be in excess of 50K itself.

Six months after this post,i guess its not only bitcoin who makes investors here a billionaires because altcoins and tokens are best engines to make good profit, thats why hundreds or thiusands of ICO are running day by day.
Yes bitcoin has the highest value but many alt and tokens that if you gather together are more valuable than the Top coin.

That wealth is distrubuted unequally between thousands of people so the number of of billionaires is less than the number of multi-millionaires and the number of multi-millionaires is less than the number of millionaires and so on...

Cryptocurrencies as you mentioned are doing very well, ICOs are still running and tokens are still available but the thread was started to discuss Bitcoin billionaires. No problem, if you know of any Ethereum or XRP or any altcoin billionaires please list them here.

They are influential and powerful enough to protect themselves. They already had a lot of wealth before they invested in bitcoins. For an average guy living in developing country with limited security, this might be a problem. But  for a person of their stature, I do not think that they need to be scared of a robber coming to their home and beating them up for their bitcoins.

I'm sure there are a lot of other secret whales that are holding 100k + bitcoin on multiple addresses but they are staying out of the public spotlight.

News media around the world is reporting that the Winklevoss twins are the world first bitcoin billionaires, stating they own 100,000 bitcoins. Congratulations to them.

Does anyone know who the other bitcoin whales are?
Anyone whom was involved with Bitcoin before its timely mainstream adoption, who held on to their stakes for life, is most likely a crypto millionaire, or quite close.
I remember when  Mt. Gox was one of the only main exchanges, I knew of Bitcoin then, but failed to see the innovation, as I thought it was just another alternative to E-gold, it was probably around $1 a coin then, if I'm not mistaken. The Next thing I knew, it would rise like a Phoenix from the ashes. By the time I wanted to get in on the trend, I was a day late and a dollar short.

Off base the makers hold more bitcoins than any other individual in this entire world.. I don't surmise that these siblings are extremely the one's holding most number of bitcoins. It's simply that the REAL extremely rich people are concealing their personality. The maker definetely have had kept some kind lf portal for themselves as a secondary passage section. That being said bitcoin still is the most secure and a solid venture resource.

As far as I know the Winklevoss twins did not buy from MtGox and in the months after buying their first batch of Bitcoin they operate their own trade exchange.

Yes the Winklevoss brothers are still investing in crypto related business. They invested when Bitcoin was around $100, they used some of the many millions of USD$ they received from the Facebook lawsuit to invest in Bitcoin.

That was a great investment making them billionaires.

The brothers have done a lot for the crypto industry, but despite this they have not fulfilled many promises.

This article (https://bitfortune.net/bitcoin-whales/) talks about a few of them. Not many, but people who really thought ahead. Nicely played.

Some whales are earlier adopters, people que get the coins when they cost less than 1 dollar. Search for some information about the topic and you will find some whales.

The Winklevoss brothers possess more than 100,000 bitcoins. It’s just not advertised in the media. I can name the creator of the Binance exchange and he owns a sufficient amount of bitcoin. Once he sold his house and bought bitcoin.

I am not aware of any... Can you name any of the many alleged promises you refer to?

I also have a twin brother, and we are also similar to each other, only my brother does not participate in bitcoins and cryptocurrencies. He is simply not interested in the blockchain. Now, if I become rich with the help of cryptocurrency, I can help my brother, because we are twins.

I follow the Winklevoss twin brothers and marvel at them, they are great.
