Interesting new concepts?

Or more clutter?

I think this is interesting. A new kind of proof of work.

I already found 2 blocks for 40.60 XPM, using a lowly i7 laptop. I am liking this new Primecoin!

It is 'literally' more clutter. It's done by the same person who does PPCoin and it's explicitly stated that PrimeCoin is to aid PPCoin...what's the point of this currency if it isn't there to compete in the market?

I have my reservations on if there is an exploit in the proof of work process.

Time will tell.

Well one purpose Sunny had in mind is to create a coin with value to the scientific community.  I.e. the work that goes into mining can also be used to further mathematical research.  Personally I really enjoy developers who publish white papers along with their coins.  I guess that's just the academic side to me (math major).  I find it surprising the amount of people who claim to know so much about this coin or that coin have never read Satoshi's first paper or any of the other one's the have followed since.  Sunny King is smart, perhaps brilliant, and I believe him to be one of the most innovative developer out there right now.  Just my opinion...

I mined for about 20 hours yesterday and ended up with 4 blocks. Got another two in the past two hours. There's a sort of nice "helper" feeling to contributing CPU time to something (even barely) research-related, akin to BOINC. I like that feeling :)
