i want to buy 10k worth of Ardor today. How do i get the IGNIS on December 25th?

To get Ignis you have to own NXT. Ardor will not give you the free Airdrop. ONLY Nxt with the ratio 0,5 Ignis per NXT.
Thats why NXT is climbing in ranks nowadays ;)

as i know, NXT holder will get Ignis for free not Ardor

To get free ignis, you need to buy NXT. Giveaway is 0.5 Ignis for 1 NXT.
NXT has run up big by investors buying it to get free Ignis. I think it will
dump hard as soon as free ignis block timestamp is locked.

To get you had to buy NXT. It's just too late to make the price soared more than 2 times.
But I support you. Just take ARDOR will soon be launching the platform and the price will go to the moon

About the Snapshot

The Ardor genesis snapshot will be recorded the last week of December, 2017. Last official news are that the exact date/block for this snapshot will be announced by December, 18th. Soon after the snapshot (on the 1st of January, 2018), the new Ardor blockchain will be released (in mainnet). You can check the official updated timeline at https://www.jelurida.com/ardor-release-timeline . Your balances in your Nxt account (in the Nxt blockchain) will be the ones that will be taken into consideration for the snapshot.

With this snapshot the following tokens will be distributed/swapped:

- Every 1 JLRDA coin (On Nxt's Monetary System, Currency Id: 823491988455668070) will be swapped for 1 IGNIS coin in the Ignis child chain (in the future Ardor platform)
- For every 1 NXT coin you'll receive 0.5 IGNIS coins more in the Ignis child chain (in the future Ardor platform)
- Every 1 ARDR asset (on Nxt's Asset Exchange, Asset Id: Asset Id: 12422608354438203866) will be swapped for 1 ARDR coin/token in the future Ardor platform

Additionally:
- Every 1 Bitswift asset (On Nxt's Monetary Systen, Asset Id: 12034575542068240440) will be swapped for 1 Bitswift coin in the Bitswift child chain (in the furure Ardor platform)
- For every  +-2500 IGNIS you'll receive a Bitswift coin in the Bitswift child chain (in the future Ardor platform)

When this one-time snapshot is over, the ARDR, JLRDA and Bitswift tokens will be freezed in Nxt's blockchain (nxtplatform.org) and you won't be able to trade them (It's likely that these tokens will eventually dissapear from Nxt's blockchain when a new version of the Nxt wallet is released). On the other side, the NXT coin and the rest of the Nxt blockchain (except the tokens mentioned above) will keep on running after the snapshot, just like it has been running smoothly for the past 4 years. The Nxt blockchain won't dissapear.

On the 1st of January the new Ardor blockchain (https://ardorplatform.org ) will be definetely launched. After downloading and installing the future Ardor wallet (currently the Ardor wallet is only available as a beta version for developers on the tesnet) you'll be able to access to your new account on Ardor's blockchain using the Ardor wallet and logging in using the same passphrase that you currently use to acces to your Nxt wallet. Once you've logged in to your Ardor wallet, you'll automatically find there the ARDR, IGNIS and Bitswift tokens assigned during the snapshot.

You can download the Nxt wallet from https://nxtplatform.org/download or from the bottom of https://www.jelurida.com (that's the official page of the Nxt/Ardor core devs). For the time being no exchange has confirmed they'll take part in the snapshot (check last minute updates at https://nxtwiki.org/wiki/FAQ#IGNIS_Airdrop_FAQ), so it's recommended that you create a Nxt account using the official Nxt wallet and transfer your funds there to be completely sure that you take part in the Airdrop.

Side notes:
- JLRDA is a controllable currency issued on top of Nxt's Monetary System. It was distributed during the IGNIS ICO and can't be traded.
- The ARDR and Bitswift assets can be traded freely in Nxt's Asset Exchange until the snapshot takes place.

Will the ARDR asset become worthless if it's kept on an exchange or is it safe to keep them on an exchange before/during/after the swap?

This might need to wait until the exchange Declare, but most likely it will makes no different there because

Ardor platform uses the same wallet/passphrase as your NXT wallet. Hence, what i read is that whatever is store on your NXT wallet will be transfer to your Ardor wallet since it holds the same passphrases

I think they won't pay any ignis for holding ardor. I think they will pay only if you hold NXT in their own blockchain but not in the exchange, but be careful after buying you need to move your coins from exchange to NXT wallets.
