As I understand it, it is all the fuss around the new project — the number of advertisement publications, the quantity of their videos on popular channels, the popularity of the project, discussion of an ICO in mass media etc.

It just means how popular a project is based on word of mouth, social media shares and etc...

Yes, the hype around the project is ... its popularity! If everyone is talking about this everywhere.
But I don't know how to measure this parameter.

Using simple words I would explain ICO hype rate like this: this is the level of popularity of the project. The more often people speak about ICO, write about it, share the information in social, the higher is this rate.

If you google it you will find this: "1. extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion." and that is exactly what it is when referring to and ICO.

Hype is based in promises, in exaggerated predictions and in selling dreams... but also requires a good project in which people can believe. Also, hype can be obtained by paying for adoption. All Airdrops are paying for adoption and all telegram campaigns are aimed to create the false look of people willing to invest by the thousands.

If you want to see what Hype looks like, just see the effect of the "free Poymath" tokens given for people following their telegram or look into

Technically, most ICO launchers and marketer have figured out by now that to obtain the funding in this new environment they have to act in two fronts:

a) Large investors
b) Small investors

And they have also figured out that to have appeal to the first group they need to show that people in the second group are enthusiastic about the idea and the project. And here´s where hype kicks into place. To create the illusion (sometimes the reality) of people being interested you need to make your project the buzzword of Twitter, Facebook and, for ICOs, of Bitcoin talk.

And it's interesting. Apparently, at first people buy not real value, namely popularity. The hype is more important than the essence of the project. At least in the start of project.

Hey, thank you for the resource, looks interesting to check how the ICOs are going and Telegram is a great indicator of the social engagement that they achieve. I remember the days in which Electroneum was the big thing beacause it had 40k.
