Title: Any alternatives to Kraken for EU citizen?
Post by: tradecoin.me on December 05, 2017, 08:13:05 PM
I've been using Kraken for a while now but their constant downtime is getting ridiculous now. To make 1 order it takes me several minutes and several attempts with constant errors popping up.

I chose Kraken because they have fast SEPA transfers and relatively good support but it seems we have to part ways now. Would love to hear some suggestions of who you guys use. Not looking for any exchanges that had security breaches before and not any that were setup yesterday.

Kraken should change its name to "Error 520: Web server is returning an unknown error"

I am in the same boat. Bitstamp seems a good alternative for European citizens but a little more strict than Kraken for KYC. I have a friend who tested it after also getting tired of Kraken and it looks good. If it's just to sell and to receive SEPA transfer there is also Bitwala (based in Germany.)

The only alternative that you could use is just Bittrex, but they have been freezing a lot of accounts including mine, so i would not suggest you to use this one.

Why dont you try using cryptopia? They are the only exchange who allow US citizens without providing KYC or AML verifications, i have been using this exchange to buy a few altcoins and i have never had any problems.

Dont even think about registering in bittrex, they will close your account, so never, but never use it.

I would suggest you to use coinbase.. but you are just looking for an exchane with multiple altcoins, so i dont know what to tell you.

We are from Europe, not the USA
You realize that the USA and Europe are both on different continents right? We are not concerned with the fact that Cryptopia allows US citizens without providing KYC/AML (they allow anybody without KYC not U.S. only). An American can't make a SEPA transfer, (no bank is part of the European Payments Council) they use SWIFT.
There is no fiat deposits in cryptopia, no SEPA no Swift, no bank wire, nothing

Didn't Bitstamp have some kind of security breach in their system, or maybe I got it mixed up with another exchange?

Yes about 3 years ago, they had a security issue, they stopped all trading activities, deposits, etc until fixed. The bitcoins are stored in cold storage so they were not able to make more damages.
It was a small incident compared to Bitfinex hack and the ~100 000 BTC stolen

I suggest to take a look at BL3P (https://bl3p.eu/) for Bitcoin <> euro transfers once they open their services for new customers again:
Quote
"Unfortunately, due to the large influx of users we cannot process new registrations until further notice."
It's created by the Dutch company Bitonic, which I trust.

Since when did Kraken disable SEPA withdrawals for level 3 accounts?

Since when did Kraken disable SEPA withdrawals for level 3 accounts?

It's one of the several errors messages that we get. I tried this morning and got this message as well, after a couple of F5 I have been finally able to order a SEPA.
I have no idea what they are doing, or not, but I am done with Kraken

Thank you, I thought they have disabled it permanently. After 10 minutes I was able to process the withdrawal, I'm withdrawing everything from there until they fix the server issues. I'm a very patient man but everything has its limits.

Bye bye Kraken, hello Bitstamp!

I am doing the same. If you want to laugh it took me over 4 hours this afternoon to transfer some coins out of Kraken. I still have some coins to move from there but will do tomorrow. I don't want to wait too much because honestly, with the current situation it doesn't look good, I won't be surprised if something bad happens to the users.

How long does Bitstamp verification usually take?

Hi tradecoin.me!

I would suggest trying Kraken out again in a week! Please read through our blog (https://blog.kraken.com/post/1399/degraded-service-upgrade-next-week/) for some great news!

F5 / retry in a bit if you get level errors for withdrawals; seems to be a symptom of their overloaded system and states that you aren't at the right tier.  Ignore it and try again.

+1 for a good EU alternative, i want to trade: dash, btc, bch, monero, eth and eur primarily.

Kraken, its good to hear you are trying but we are losing money with these errors and they've been happening for months.  You should be vocal, honest and consistent with updates to build trust.

This is long overdue. I really hope all will be resolved because Kraken was really frustrating for a long time. Kraken needs to be more proactive in future to avoid degraded and unreliable service.
It will be nice if we get a free fees trading day or something similar :p
