Title: Lost electrum password, have nothing whatsoever
Post by: Blooorourhruoh on July 10, 2013, 01:56:32 AM
No seed, no words, nothing.  Whatever I wrote down is literally gone forever so let's forget about it.  The only thing I have is the original electrum.dat, which based on my research contains my seed in encrypted form.  Someone said that it's "not difficult" to decrypt it.  Anyone have any idea how to go about that?

I'm not against the concept of brute forcing if I have to.  It's only two coins, but I'd rather not lose them.

EDIT: I also have a file called blockchain_headers, but I don't know if it's of value to me.

Anybody?  200 dollars is a significant amount of money to me.  I don't want it to be gone forever.

Here's a thread with brute-forcing scripts and explanation: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170694.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170694.0). You'll have to be somewhat technically inclined to use this solution.

If you remember anything at all about your password - how many characters, what type of characters, and so on - you might have some success with this. If you used a very complex password and don't remember anything about it, though, you're probably out of luck.

Was it written on a notepad?
Would it be possible to shade in the next page to have a clue as to what the password is?

Unfortunately it was written in notepad, not a notepad.  I tried to run an undelete program but that turned up empty.

I'll try the brute force script.  It'll take a while, but since it's my computer (and I leave it on at night) I have all the time in the world.  Thanks.
