Title: btctock.com scam warning - THANK YOU for the warning
Post by: jessebtc on July 10, 2013, 04:42:33 AM
Hi all, wanted to thank JoelKatz and others for posting about btctock.com.  I have an order placed with him/them, and of course it makes total sense that it is all too good to be true - but I'm too enthused and trusting to just say "wait a minute this couldn't be anything except a baldfaced robbery".
I'm a newbie so I can't post where the thread is, which is here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=251390.0
He/they are allowing me to use paxum.com to pay instead of a bitcoin direct transfer (since I don't have any).  I asked about paypal and got:
"Paypal Normally do have issues with every bitcoin based business , they also have issues with us , they have started to ask to stop the bitcoin related services ."

I think I will ask about what escrow service they recommend I use once I have my paxum.com account ready (but unfunded) - I'll post the response.

Hey,

I came across BTC Stock (btctock.com) through bitvisitor. Like you, I got too excited about the fact that they had items in stock to think about whether they were a scam or not. I placed an order with them for a 5 Ghash/s butterfly labs unit and paid via bitcoin today. They said that they will be shipping the unit within 24-48 hours, so I should know for sure whether they are a scam or not before long.

One encouraging sign: when I placed the order, they said that they had a quantity of 1 in stock, and after my order that immediately changed to "Out of stock." If they were scammers, you'd think they'd keep it in stock, no?

Product listing: http://btctock.com/?q=content/butterfly-5ghs-miner

Anyway, will update when I can.

Geoffrey

In case anyone is still harboring hope: btctock.com is a scam.  Once again: btctock is a SCAM.  It is better you delete your bitcoins forever than to send them to this criminal, because otherwise you'll (and I have) continue to help him succeed as a career criminal.

His bitcoin payment address: 12qrJgcwAdAbShmqUvX2uxeWU2FZjY5AYq

I expect no action, but later today I will be contacting his hosting provider and the BBB of california, since he claims to be in the LA area.

I will answer any PM questions regarding btctock.com you have.  If you are also a victim of this criminal, and want to be informed of any info I get from authorities about it, let me know.

Jesse

For good measure, I'll add that my payment address was 18YCYVtvUjXtVsdedn9iiykWHEk8AfdcHv. Might be better off going after them via their payment processor and advertisers.
