Easy calculating your Activity based on your registration day. Basically for fun as just a few receive enough merit to rank up.

Regarding the Activity points system >
Explanation:
  • After your registration you have 14 days cycles in which you can gain up to 14 Activity points.
  • Every post generates you 1 Activity point but in 14 days time span you can gain up to 14 Activity points even if you have more than 14 posts.
  • On the day 15 the cycle restarts and you can again collect your 14 points.
Interesting thing is if you have posts over the limit from the previous cycle, with the first comment in the new cycle you get the Activity points from the old posts you had in the previous cycle.
Example:  I had 28 Activity points and 33 comments before the end of the cycle, with my first post in the new cycle my Activity points went up to 34, the same amount as my posts.

Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0)

Regarding the Merit points system >

From 25.01.18 you have to collect Merit point together with the activity points in order to Rank-up. This was done to increase the quality of the posts and to prevent the spam.
Here are the new requirements for ranking up according to the forum Administrator- theymos. This is the copy from the Merit & new rank requirements topic, links you will find in extra info section
"In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks."
For reference see the table above.
I hope you will find your answers in the Q/A section. I'll try to list as many as possible.

Q/A Section:

Q: Well, how to collect Merit points?
A: "You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points you get as sMerti (sendable Merit) and they can be sent by you to other people."

Q: Who is giving these points?
A: There will be certain people called "merit sources" which will give points to quality posts. They are 57 79 123 130 98 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5180975.0)* at the moment I wrote this , see Merit Statistics link below. In addition according your rank and the merit points you have received you can also give to posts you like, so we can say that everyone can give sMerit.

Q: OK but c'mon, how to get Merit points on my posts?
A: There is no recipe for collecting merit but here are some guidelines. The most important is to try to contribute in some way to the forum. Stay away from breaking the forum rules, learn proper English in order to communicate effectively with the community, be helpful and creative, and the last advice is: don't push it too hard, you just gonna stuck on your current rank. Improving yourself will improve your rank too, I'm sure. See the reference on the bottom

Q: How many Merit points I have ?
A: Follow the link Check your Merit, there you can check your points and there will be listed also the points you have received and for which post and the points you have given.

Q: I want to know more about the Merit Points System
A: You have to follow the Merit & new rank requirements link below, it's a long discussion there.

* 98 as per 20.11.19, I won't update this number anymore.Follow the Merit source observations thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5180975.0) by Tranthidung.
The initial sMerit formula is here, thanks to theymos :
The exact formula was:
Code:
yearActivity = activity in the last ~year, max 378
freeMerit = the merit (not sMerit) you started with
modifier =
  0.1 if member
  0.2 if full member
  0.25 if sr member
  0.35 if hero
  0.4 if legendary

return (yearActivity/378) * modifier * freeMerit

Regarding the Trust system >

Note: The trust system is updated and slightly changed so the below explanation will be updates soon.
Here is how theymos explained the system:

Quote
Trust: 1: -0 / +12(3)
The first number is the user's trust score calculated based on how consistently they've received positive feedback. Probably no one will get a score above 0 until the system has been around for at least a month. The second number is the number of reported scams. The third number increases with the number of positive reports, as does the fourth number in parenthesis, though the fourth number is more resistant to abuse. This text changes color depending on the score. Users with a negative score (attainable through scamming) get a red warning attached to their posts.

These scores are taken from your trust network. They are not global scores. You can edit your trust network here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust
If your trust depth is set to 2 (the default), you will trust feedback by people you trust, people they trust, and people they trust. I might change the default in the future; we'll see how this works. Your trust list is public.

On feedback pages, you can leave trade feedback. There are no rules for this, but here are some guidelines:
- List all of the trades that you do with people (or at least the major ones). This is not like #bitcoin-otc where you give people just one score.
- Do not rate people based on the quality of their posts.
- Older ratings count for more, so don't delete old ratings if you can avoid it.
- "Risked BTC" is how much money you could have lost if the person you're rating had turned out to be a scammer. Or, if they are a scammer, it's how much you lost. Use the BTC value at the time of reporting.
- It's OK to post a rating about the person in general, not tied to a specific trade.
- If you want to make a rating stronger, increase "Risked BTC". 50 extra risked BTC is equivalent to an additional rating.

If your trust list is totally empty, you trust "DefaultTrust", which includes some trustworthy people that I'll select. But if you add anyone to your trust list, even if they don't trust anyone, DefaultTrust will no longer be considered part of your trust list.

Q:    How you can check in anyone added you to his list ?
A:    Search for your username in the list posted by theymos.
https://bitcointalk.org/trust.txt.xz
I made it so that'll update every Saturday at 02:52 UTC. -> is "trusts", and -/> is "excludes".

Note: Information is taken from the Trust rules post.

Default Trust (DT) info:

Quoted from subSTRATA (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=68036) from this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5045457.msg46607635#msg46607635)!
Quote
short version: DT has 'depths,' which by default, is set to 2, although it is possible to see up to 4. Depth 1 is managed directly by the administration; only the admins can add or remove uses from this category. Depth 2 is managed by the individuals in depth 1 by adding or excluding them to their trust lists (the big text box on this page https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust).
when a dt1 user decides to add a user to their trust list, that user becomes a part of dt2, and vice versa for depths 3 and 4 as well (although depths 3 and 4 are nearly irrelevant ). At this point, for a person to be removed from their dt2 position, 1 of 2 things can happen;

1. the dt1 member who added that user to their trust list removes them
2. the user is excluded by at least 2 other members in dt1 by entering ~<username> as opposed to just their username into the list

the second method serves to ensure that dt2 can be self - monitored to an extent without direct interference by the administration. If a member is taken off of dt2 through exclusion, their name will be 'slashed through' on the trust settings page as such: username.

Also, if you're wondering what the numbers next to their names mean, it denotes the number of dt1 users that have decided to either add or exclude a member from their trust lists. assuming the user is on 1 dt1 user's trust list (1), the exclusion of the member by 2 other users would put them at a (-1).

If you're curious, you can click the 'hierarchical view' link at the bottom of the page, and you will be able to see exactly which users have decided to include or exclude certain users from their trust lists.

In this case, it would seem Lauda has been excluded by 3 dt1 members: HostFat, OgNasty, and Tomatocage, while he is on the trust lists of 2 members: Blazed and hilariousandco.

Q/A on basic use of the forum.

Note> Complete list of FAQ you can find in the rules. The following Q/A are not listed there.

Q:  How to find my profile ID/number/link?
A:  There are many ways to do it. Find your last comment and click on your user name > like this example (https://imgur.com/9e4NqFR) and check your address bar for the link, here is mine>
Code:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1291828
Mine ID is the number after "=", so 1291828.
Extra info here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2702638.0)

Q:  How to delete/move a thread I started?
A:  You cannot delete your threads, but you can lock them and move them to the Archive. Check this for reference (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3334981.msg34893931#msg34893931) Now you know how to move threads :)

Q:  Why my messages getting deleted/my activity decrease?
A:  Most common case is because your posts are considered as a bad/low quality/spam or just add nothing to the discussion/project etc. Sometimes you get a PM form the forum system that your posts are deleted, but now always. Other case is if you have commented on a thread which gets deleted, you don't get any notifications. There are many cases, but if you stick to the rules, you probably never gonna face this problem.

Q:  Why I cannot upload images?
A:   Answer is in the rules, better read all, before you ask again.

Q:  What happens if I de-rank and from full member, do I loose my avatar?
A:   Based on DdmrDdmr research  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5075642.msg48239213#msg48239213)seems like you keep your current avatar but you have no option to change or remove it. Example  (https://archive.fo/e82lZ)

Q:  What does leet mean in the post count?
A:  Theleet represents the number 1337, example of leet post count (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3149325.msg39230688#msg39230688), more info here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet).

Q:  How can I delete my account?
A:  You just can't, only theymos can do it if there is a good reason for it.

Q:  What is my Copper membership payment address?
A:  This address is unique for your account and can be found here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote). It never changes.

Here is a little gem of knowledge that's often omitted from all activity calculator discussion: If you make more than 14 posts a fortnight, they don't go to waste. The excess posts will count as additional activity in the future activity periods where you've made less than 14 posts.

The calculations looks correct till now.Got my Activity points today as planned so I guess first test has been passed successfully.

Yeah just experienced it myself that if you post more than 14 post per 2 weeks the extra posts automatically generate Activity points after your first comment in the new 2 weeks time span. This is great.

Oh man, this is great to know! Explains how I got more Activity immediately after recalculation took place.

Thanks for the calculator OP. Fun to play with.

I was enlightened now, thanks for the information. This explains the additional count i experienced before. I thought the website just experiencing error and my comment got posted twice. So i guess 14posts per week is not a limitation, the excess will still be used on the future. I've been thinking to post just the exact 14 post so that others won't get wasted, i understand now.

Wow it enlightens me. Thanks for this post. I now understand how does activity points work. So grateful this post helps a lot for newbies like me. I really thought that you need to post the exact 14posts per 2weeks.

Interesting. If you post correctly, it will take you just over 2 years to level up to Legendary. When I started out a few years ago, I just posted frequently, because I liked the forum and before I knew it, I reached Legendary. The secret to the success for this, is not to post on the forum to rank up. Come in daily and look for something that interest you and then just chat about it or ask questions to gain more knowledge.

Time goes by very quickly and before you know it, you will be a Legendary member of this forum.  ^smile^

You are guaranteed to become Legendary somewhere between 775 and 1030 activity, but the exact point in this range at which you become Legendary is random per user.

Im pretty sure every 2 weeks you can have 14 activity points so its like 7/7 ..... 7 points a week . so to get full member should be at 4.5 months . you need 126 points of activity. dont worry about that you will get it soon.join some bounty campains too will do good for you.

Title: Re: Rank and Activity points calculator, v1.1
Post by: Kigwa143 on January 15, 2018, 11:34:05 PM
You can get one activity every time you post but its maximum if 14 and it will accumulate every 2weeks and in jr member you need 30 activity so atleast 1month,member 2months,full member 4months and so on be because every rank the actuvity required will be double.

Title: Re: Rank and Activity points calculator, v1.1
Post by: putot on January 16, 2018, 01:28:59 AM
You can accumulate 14 activity every 2weeks so 1activity everyday and when you reach 30 you will be promoted to jr. Member and then multiply it buy two to be member and so on

Now the game has changed and for the newcomers coming only for the bounties it will be difficult. Now you have to contribute to the forum and earn Merit points in order to rank-up.
I have updated the calculator with the Merit point system. More information you will find in the calculator :)
Good luck

I think this is one solution to all the spam here. It's easy to reach 10 Merit points if you post quality posts. From 10 to 100 is a bit more difficult for Full member. We are still in the beginnig of the new system, hope that with the time the system will be adjusted. Lets see what happens from now on.

With the introduction of the new merit points system in addition to activity, leveling up is now impossible to predict. I still like your spreadsheet and I'm keeping it in my bookmarks, but man... what a bummer.

Yup, agreed, I think the panic about the forum's imminent death is premature. I'm even kinda happy I wasn't a more senior rank about to level up... that would suck big time.

With regards to spam, I hope it will help curtail it, BUT someone else brought up a valid point that newbies might start spamming even more in hopes of getting merit at least for something. We'll see.

Hoping for some adjustments though. The system is a bit complicated.

The new system will be good, but I think many of us will ignore awarding quality posts. Sometimes, we just look for info and we skip awarding contributor.

I also like the new system. Although it will be difficult to rank up, it will definitely weed out the spammers/broken-English, non-nonsensical ramblings that occur on here. I think the people did that just to quickly rank up, and now it de-incentivizes them from doing so.

I am posting consistently with quality replies (not just "hi" or "this site is great" or "I agree").  I am accruing many posts (over 180)  but my merit remains pinned at "10" or at a newbie to jr member level.  Quite the discrepancy between the amount I am posting, my activity  and the merit value.

Not understanding the merit system at all.

I guess all I can do is continue to post (because the topics interest me) and let the "merit" and "activity" take care of itself (HOPEFULLY) over time.

Yes, just give it some time. It's just 20 days since it was introduced so big part of the community is not aware of it yet. When the time comes to rank up, they will find out about the Merit and how it works and will begin to distribute it too.

Just added new section for "Useful and entertaining threads".
If there are useful threads for newbies, please point them out so I can include them in the list
Planning later to rearrange everything and probably  will change the Subject line too. It's getting way toooo long now.
Reduced the size of the infographic.

Thanks. I did not realize that the merit system was so new (less than a few weeks old).  Will have patience and will keep posting to my favourite threads. Many interesting  discussions on these forums!

People's perceptions of the quality of posts follows some rules but it really varies from individual to individual.  Something that is valuable to you doesn't mean that is valuable to everyone.

I love the information. I understood that we need 10 merit to jump from Jr to Member. right?

Yes, you need to collect 10 merits in order to rank up to member. By learning and helping the community you will achieve those points in no time, so avoid spam and one line posts and you are on the right way :)

Just an observation, although I admire your dedication to certain threads (Titanium, Snovio, Litecoincash and Moonlite), your posts - at least since the merit system was introduced - are almost exclusively on these 4 threads. This is unlikely to earn you any merit, as with the thousands of threads that are on the forum, someone would have to be on one of these particular threads and be interested in your post to merit you. You need to 'spread your wings' if you want to earn merit, delve into other topics that interest you as well as projects that (presumably) you are invested in. If you want to see what posts are earning merit, click the link below that was provided by the OP. If shows where (lots of) merit points are being handed out, at least the more frequent places, and who is giving them.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats

If you want to get more specific info on particular people and who they give/receive their merit points to/from, just click on their profile and then click the merit option in their profile summary. It gives an interesting insight into what different people value on the forum, and consequently where you are more likely to earn merit points by posting.

That said, you are genuinely using the forum as it was designed, to learn and educate on specific areas that you personally are interested in, so fair play to you. I'll give you a merit for that.

P.S. Nice concise guide by the OP, the links combined in one post are very handy.

Thank you for such detailed clarification of ranks and merits systems.
So, if you get 2 merits then you can send 1 merit to someone else, right?
And if you get 1 merit you can't send anything?

Yes, if you get only one, you actually have 0.5 sMerit, which you can't send /for now, there can be some changes in the rules in the future/ until you receive one more.

Hmmmm....  ???

So, if I get 1 merit + 1 merit then I have 1 sMerit in total?

Exactly, you never loose points,  they're just rounded to whole number so you can't send 0.5.

Here is a little gem of knowledge that's often omitted from all activity calculator discussion: If you make more than 14 posts a fortnight, they don't go to waste. The excess posts will count as additional activity in the future activity periods where you've made less than 14 posts.
This really motivates me to posting more than 14 posts per two week period, this information I never found earlier in this forum and again big thank you for your valuble contribution for the forum and such a great way of explaining facts which I didn't know before :)

Why would that motivate you to post more?
You should post when you have something to say, not because of some post counting system.
I've done a lot of reading since I joined but posted just few times.

Your post count is increasing every time you make a post, same if you / or mods/  delete one, it will decrease.
The activity is increasing with every post you make / updating every 15 min or something/  but cannot go over 14 activity points for two weeks.

Example:
So if you have 100 activity in the beginning of the two weeks period and you make 15 posts in the first two days your activity will go up to 114, because you reached your limit for those two weeks. Every post will increase your post count* but not your activity until the start of the next two weeks period.

* There are boards where if you post your post count doest change.

I have been reading and learning since day one though I have not posting " I've done lot of reading" :).Further if I want to post only for counting thing then i only need to post just one post per day just like you. But I want to be a part of this forum and interactive with other members, not only for say hi or to be one liner. Do you think that everyone want to be just like you.No I'm different and btw feel free to check what I have posted and then criticise :)

Yeah just experienced it myself that if you post more than 14 post per 2 weeks the extra posts automatically generate Activity points after your first comment in the new 2 weeks time span. This is great.

OK got it. But what about missed fortnight cycles, I mean if didn't post and then started to do so a month later, could I receive 28 activities of previous month in one week?

If you don't post in this two weeks time span you miss the 14 activity.

In this example you are saying our extra activity will be counted instantly with the first post after two weeks period. Is that means our posts are not going to wasted and still count as activities for the next two weeks period?

Yes, but note that you have to have at least 1 post in the two weeks time span in order to get the 14 activity. If you don't post during the new two weeks period you will loose the 14 points for this period.
Hope it's not too complicated.

Hope to get an update of the infographic too with accordance to the new rules.

Yet another update, added new section and some steps you have to take as a newbie to secure your account and to avoid being banned and fixed the infographic as I informed 8Habits that his infographic is outdated but is offline for over a month now.

Another small changes are made, Add some extra info in the General Forum Q/A. BTW if there are any other interesting topics you think I need to cover, let me know ;)

Nice guide you’ve got there @Iasenko. I see that you try to keep it up-to-date, so just to let you know that the Q/A relative to Merit Sources currently shows 79 as the number of profiles with that role, instead of the running 119 (awarding up to 22.045 sMerits every 30 days).

One general confusion which I often find is that newer people tend to think that when they Merit someone, they are actually sending Merit from their Merit counter and not the (not so visible) sMerit counter, being the Merit counter one that never decreases (safe for a single exception in the past that I’m aware of whereby some merit TXs were reversed due to clear abuse).

Thank you , I always forget to update the merit source numbers, as they change not so often.

I started this thread long before the merit system but what I had back then was only the rank-up calculator, and a simple explanation how the activity system is working.
After the merit systems came in place, the calculator was not so useful anymore so I added some extra info I found during that time.

Edited: Exactly one year ago I started this thread. Celebrating 1y anniversary today:)

Updated the number of merit sources, I think I'll keep a track here in this thread.

A little bump to remind me to update the Trust system in the near future.

Q: I want to know more about the Merit Points System
A: You have to follow the Merit & new rank requirements link below, it's a long discussion there.

* 130 as per 21.05.19
Because of the bump from ChibitCity, I found that the figure of total merit sources in OP is incorrect. Please update it when you have spare time.
Temporarily, there are 98 merit souces (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources) in total.
I have my thread: Merit source observations (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5180975.0)
If you think that thread is helpful, I hope it will be included in your OP.
