The ethereum network is congested and people have had transactions pending for days. There are around 22000 pending transactions at the moment and it was higher than that a few hours ago. With all the app tokens coming online over the next year it doesn't bode well for ethereum's functionality, hopefully they will implement something to boost transaction numbers soon while we wait for PoS.

I think you don't understand the market the price of bitcoin is getting increases fast than ethereum look at the coinmarketcap you can see the price of ethereum ETH/USD the price was honestly increasing but its not so high not the same as bitcoin that increases too high from fast week ago.
So we can see the price of ethereum is getting stable increase it would be hard to decrease since there are lots of new comers and mine ethereum i am expecting to the price to increase more..

Agree with this answer. The Ethereum network has been facinf issues lately like the congestion of transactions and delayed confirmations.
Ethereum has faced these type of network issues in the past giving trouble to ETH users. ETH is adding up new features to it's platform and this might be another reason for the network traffic. It would be wise to stay patient and wait until the network issue is solved and the transactions are confirmed without any hassles.

Because the blockchain is greatly decongested lately especially when Crypto Kitties popped out. And the sudden increase of bitcoin as well might have also have a big impact on Ethereum. I would just hold on to my Ethereum though until they would find a way to clear out the congestion.

I think there is just no room to grow for Ethereum because of the hard Bitcoin spikes. The last time Bitcoin spiked that hard, Ethereum needed some extra time to follow.

Bitcoin is rising and some money was shifted to IOTA and Monero projects. This can be the reason behind this decline. Anyway, never worry, it will give you more than it made you lose, I believe.

Can't the cat game use some child blockchain instead of the main eth chain... Or miners charge extra for cat txs.

It is about kryptokitties only , crazy people that buy virtual cats for real money ;D. sonn the hyip will be over and everything great.

There is a lot of congestion and the Cryptokittens game has a lot to do with it but we shouldn't blame Cryptokittens for using Ethereum as it was intended to be used.

Fair enough these are cats that are being traded but it runs along the same principle as anything of value and the ownership being transferred from person to person, this is the first time something like this has been testing the network and so far the network is struggling, imagine if there were just a couple of similar trading games or auctions happening, it would bring the network to a standstill.

If anything this should prompt a refocus on the ETH scaling situation.

The amount of ICOs and pump and dump airdrops are just too high right now and they are actually reducing ETH price in long term.

Because it's crypto kitties. But do not worry about it because everything is back to normal. And the ethereum returns back to the previous price may go back to higher prices so we can be confident. Certainly if we trust there is a good thing to do. Perhaps when the issue is over, it may also pump up the ethereum and may even roll over bitcoins next year.

Because it happens naturally here in the crypto world. Corrections are always bound to happen everytime to all of altcoins and even on bitcoin. Prices rise and fall but often rises even more with the come back. Not to mention that the price of bitcoin are high. which is natural because i have seen bitcoin drop in price and eth increasing. And vice versa. So don't worry, this is completely natural and not something to cry about.

This is the most common fear of man, since bitcoin flies insanely to the top, people are afraid of losing their money! Maybe this bubble will burst but I will personally wait!

Other than the Crypto Kitties thing... it isn't ETH going down, it's BTC going up! Most other alts are down vs BTC. And BTC is rising because of a variety of reasons, partly a slew of mainstream media reports about this year's price rise, partly the news about opening of futures markets, partly the news on developments for lightning network.

I think there are a few problems here.
- Crypto Kitties overload the system and mindless users are ready to pay 300 gas instead of 40, that their operation was faster.
- Many new coins that are created on the basis of the Ethereum,
- Very rapid growth of bitcoin, and as a result, the fall of almost all crypto-currencies including the Eth.

Many people really blaming kittens for congestion of ethereum and it's really causing trouble Im almost wasting for failed transaction I'm submitting but not process successfully and just bounce back to my wallet.

That seems it like.  There are some exceptions past week like Dash, IOTA, Monera, Monacoin.  But quite sure that Bitcoin will keep on going up. 
That's good for a lot of people, but the coin is not very practical. (Buying a coffee?)  There are lot of other better blockchains, but traders are only interested in price.

One of the reason maybe is the rising price of bitcoin. Since bitcoin is in demand right now, the price is being pulled. It is just like the economy law wherein if the product has a high demand, the value rises. We just need to buy some time then etherium will go up again.

Ethereum is down because of the cryptokitty issue as people have already highlighted.

It's a positive and a negative for Ethereum:
+ Shows the platform is in very high demand and more use cases can only increase the value of the eth
- Highlights scaling issues but the dev team should hopefully respond

Ethereum price didn't drop... It's just that the Bitcoin took so much value because of media fame ,and a lot of people that start being interested in the crypto world. And what is the first coin you buy when you start investing in blockchain ? It's bitcoin.

The market is irrational.. and the cryptomarket is EVEN more irrational! There's no explantion to many of the pumps and dumps we see daily... It is a market moved by hype and news instead of fundamentals for the most part.

Ethereum is holding its ground pretty well in terms of fiat value, but BTC is skyrocketing meanwhile...thats why the ratio is so poor today (good price to get some eth if you ask me)

I think the price ethereum drops because of the over height in the eth network. Many people move to other platforms to minimize costs, especially for the token developers. Gas Sets that must be high and the number of pending transactions that occur can also be the trigger of the down ETH prices.

Ethereum price drops because of the bitcoin price increasing. Notice the price of other altcoins also drops this means not the only ethereum that has very low value. So, I believe ethereum will become huge its value with its moment.

I think Ethereum price is dropping because more people are exchanging their ether for bitcoin trying to join the new bitcoin trend.

Because bitcoin is eating all the crypto-market resources at the moment. Capitalization is limited and it's just gaining bigger % part of it. So eth falls in price.

Certainly the network congestion is playng a factor.  Eth always seems to go down whenever any major network event like this happens.  Blame the cats!

It's down for two reasons. First is the heavy traffic on the ethereum network caused by the so-called cryptokitties. Second is the Bitcoin mooning. So even if ethereum has steady price, its value would still decrease in terms of bitcoin.

There is congestion on the Ethereum blockchain and they said traders shouldn't panick. After a short time, things will normalise and the price will resume it upward trend.

Etherneum price drop is mainly because of the immense growth of bicoin . The problem doesn't stop here , all other altcoins mainly depends upon etherneum and none of the altcoin is unaffected because of the wrath of bitcoin .
The ongoing problem of unconfirmed transactions and conjusted pool is not only in bitcoin but also in etherneum which is leading to loss of trust and eventually value.

I'm sure that krypto kittens will make Ethereum stronger. Very timely detected problems in the system. This error will be fixed in the near future. I think that in the future such problems will not be repeated.

Maybe there are many people or investor still hold their money and decide to not buy more ethereum while the price is in the low price. But I am sure that the ethereum can go up again soon and in that time, the investor who is not buying ethereum will buy more ethereum because they are panic to see the price is starting to increase. I think the Ethereum price dropped like it did do to market manipulation.  I don't think any of the coins inflated or deflated like that last year due to normal market activity.  I believe it will rise just as quickly. 

You should know by now that prices of crypto currencies are not stable. The prices don't need any reason to fall down or go up within a given time. Events that causes price rise or drop lasts for a long term. But unusual drops are temporary and usually recovers within a short period of time.

This thread was started last year Dec when the price of eth went down but later in the year, it went bck up again, and currently the price of eth is really dip down once again and I know for sure it will surely bounce back again.

for a price reduction did occur on every coin which weakened. to Ethereum indeed had suffered a disadvantage and cause the price being down. This is sustainable and make it fall. I am sure with the newer developments that continue to increase in price able to restore in the Ethereum future through a process that is not short.

Market is what determines price am not happy about the state ETH is.... Most project are making use of ETH blockchain so I think it getting hard for ETH to increase just as bitcoin. It just matter of time ETH will recovery back. 

Etheruem price drop hard really affects both bounty hunters and investors because we believe it will recover and rise very soon but it keep declining day in day out that really confuse me don't really know why it keeps falling but I know at the right place to know the answer, I know veteran in the house we enlighten me.

Will,theres a news feed on this week thats some big whales  are preparing for a dump on there asset of 30,000 btc thats worth into $192 million, thats was move from crypto wallet thats have belong into the bitfinex,otherwise we could not assure thats this is the main reason now why the price of etherium and other cryptocurriencies are drops down at this moment,but maybe this happen atr the one would affect the monetary fund into the worlds of cryptocurrency system.

I think that there are a lot of projects that are pretty much like ethereum at this point, like the one you mention EOS, but there is also cardano and NEO so they could have contributed too.

I would say that the price is being manipulated, either that or the coin is just experiencing a normal market dip on its own which happens because the prices of coins cannot just stay up forever. There could also be truth to the fact that there was some dispute in the ranks and then there was that talk of the creator moving to google so maybe that contributed to it.

It is a memorable to us of what it happen last 2017 and even though it is already 1 years past but we can't make any chances to forget it. We experience a huge pumps but it bring back to us after( huge fall). How's a horrible disaster came into crypto and even making people to leave  and distrust crypto.
A lot of scam, fake ICO's and hacking events happens in the entire market making it to straight down in more than a year of struggles. But look at now, we are getting back and healthy.

everyone thinks about the future that if the current situation will not good for our investment thoughts creating our future not to be good but in all the things we cannot say that future will be useful but in most of the time it may be giving the good hope if you are doing proper work nowadays.
