Fake speculations

I hope it's fake, but with the transfer of 4000btc out of their wallet visible to everyone, you'd think if this was just a part of their maintenance there would be some clarification tweeted. It is possible that there is a very legitimate explanation - maybe they are converting the holdings/payouts system over to a different storage - but it really does look and feel like a game-ending hack.

1. Nicehash upgraded their servers on DEC 4 according to their tweet.
2. On that upgrade they might have changed their hosting providers, now any guy inside that hosting company get into nicehash server to hack all those bitcoin.
                          OR
3. Nicehash themselves upgrading their wallet and moving into new wallet provider for security reason or to make it compatable with new upgraded infrastructure they have just installed.
4. If not than yes all of our bitcoin there is gone..... >:(

Curiously my miner reports that their solo pool is still working:

stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333

Should I disable this?

It's a pure speculation and nothing is concrete so far. I don't get why some people are making a big deal out of this when a lot of popular sites has been experiencing downtimes recently. Most probably to create another FUD again. Give it some time i suggest.

Here are some of them from what I remember. Check the dates!!!

CONFIRMED!

"Dear NiceHash users!

Unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours.

Importantly, our payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen. We are working to verify the precise number of BTC taken.

Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. In addition to undertaking our own investigation, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are co-operating with them as a matter of urgency.

We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity.

We would not exist without our devoted buyers and miners all around the globe. We understand that you will have a lot of questions, and we ask for patience and understanding while we investigate the causes and find the appropriate solutions for the future of the service. We will endeavour to update you at regular intervals.

While the full scope of what happened is not yet known, we recommend, as a precaution, that you change your online passwords.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are committing every resource towards solving this issue as soon as possible." -- https://www.facebook.com/NiceHash/

These guys claim we're on a globe, we got exit scammed!

There's absolutely no reason for their hot wallet to hold 64 million dollars. That's completely inexcusable and a huge red flag.

This is extremely dubious. It has "exit scam" written all over it. This is 2017, and endless Bitcoin services have claimed over years that they -- against proper security procedures -- kept everything in a hot wallet and were subsequently "hacked." Does anyone even believe these claims anymore?

Today, even newbies are being taught to use hardware wallets because of the dangers of holding BTC on internet-connected machines. There is absolutely no excuse for an operation of Nicehash's size and reputation to keep > 4000 BTC in a hot wallet. I don't believe this for a second. Is there any information about the owners? Where is the company located?

Correct. I don't buy the story that they have been hacked. In these cases, especially now the price has gone up, it is a very easy way to claim to be hacked, while in reality it was likely a well set up inside job. It has been proven several times already that people being responsible for millions and millions in funds, can't deal with this professionally, and for that reason will at some point screw up badly. NiceHash had a fantastic concept and gained a considerable amount of popularity in recent times, but yet it isn't enough for the people behind it. I feel sorry for the people having lost money, and for the miners that were more or less depending on NiceHash as plarform

Oh no, sorry Nicehash users. However you should have not been investing in cloudmining in the first place. The profit gained is more advantageous to the operator than the user.

Having said that, is anyone expecting a twist in the story? All it needed was one heinous employee to execute the "hack".

I think they will come back. Maybe offer users no fee for a long, long period of time to recover this loss.
That service was so widely used and I don't think they ll give up on that. Just wait and see, they did say 24 hours.

Sorry to say I've been mining since 2013 and i've never seen a "hacked" pool return funds.

It is not only Nicehash, but hashflare.io (http://hashflare.io) is also about of service. Could it be related?

Title: Re: Has NIcehash been hacked?

Only simpleminded people will only believe that this mining service got hacked, its simple that they run and steal the funds from their user. And don't expect they will operate again or refund. This is not new, most mining services did this same like hashocean when the Bitcoin price increased.
So move on, but wait hashflare will be the next in line, anyway those small time investor cant afford to withdraw their funds there since hashflare set their minimum withdraw to a huge one.

They will not surely cameback since how could they refund the funds of their investors for this matter? The what so called hack amount is big and that is totally made the nicehash became emptied and I think this scenario can make their business closed, But we should be more optimistic on the other side since theirs also a possibilities that maybe they are decide to scam their investor since they've see that the price of bitcoins soar high and their operation is not profitable for theirselves.

Well maybe and if hashflare gone well a huge lose for all of the investor who believe on both legit cloudmining site wanna be.

No, they also sold hashing power for BTC and some altcoins.

With that said, I'm not sure how much in BTC they sold but with the amount reported to be stolen, I would consider that they sold a large sum of mining contracts.

It's not cloud mining. Cloud mining is an all around shady business that usually isn't really what they claim to be. Nicehash was a hashrate marketplace, where they provided the market and took fees on people buying and selling hashing power. People didn't buy "contracts" for x amount of time, they just paid for it as they used it.

No, but they did rob their customers and claim they were hacked.

That could have been the case, but we don't know. They could have legitimately gotten hacked, but then there is no proof for either of these scenarios honestly. All you can do is speculate right now and either way, i don't think it helps you any more or less to get your money back.

If you want to take their word for it, go ahead. But there is also suspicion that they have pulled a runaway scam.

From the start though, you shouldn't have stored anything more than what you could afford to lose on their site. It wasn't supposed to be a wallet.

You can piss off too, they only allowed withdraws of "mined coins" every 24h and that's only if you mined to their wallet, if you mined to your own external wallet they only processed once a week unless you mined more than .01 btc. So really just fuck off with your blame the victim retoric especially when it's fucking bullshit you fucking shitstain.
