Title: Best game to take advantage of two 7950s?
Post by: atariguy on July 10, 2013, 04:17:31 PM
So if I were to shut down my GPU mining and put a couple 7950s in my main PC, what games would they benefit the most? I actually haven't been much of a gamer in the last 15 years, but I tried out the free games that came with my GPUs, and found I like the new Tomb Raider (I spent many hours playing the original Tomb Raider way back when). However, the game looks simply gorgeous just with a single 7770.

There must be some reason to have crossfire capability on them, however...

So, a game that hasn't been released yet, and an animated game that's 6 years old. Geez... I guess they're going on ebay.

Well, I came into this thread to name the new "Tomb Raider", but....

Yeah, I actually was just reading about some of the effects they used for Tomb Raider. It sounds like, as good as it looks with my 7770, I'm going to have to at least try it with the 7950s. :)

Why not sell one of the graphics cards and build a brand new PC with the money you make and put the other one in the new PC? I don't know what your current specs are though but benchmark is a lot more important in games than flashy graphics cards you should be able to run any game fine with just one 7950, the only reason to really have two is if you're doing 3D rendering.

I believe Crysis 3 was another of the free games. I played it briefly, and will have to try it again.

I just got my first big power bill of the summer. It usually goes up from the A/C, but my mining has cost me an extra $45 or so. I figured out today that it would actually be more cost effective to use my new USB miners on a Raspberry Pi (I just happen to have one lying around) than to just add them to the mining rig that is running with GPUs.

So, it looks like I'll be trying out these games with the 7950s as soon as the USB hub I just ordered arrives.

SLI and CF suck. You dont get double performance out of a second GPU. More like 40-60%. Not all games scale well with 2 GPU. Some games play better with 7970 than 7990.

I recommend one GTX 780.
