Title: Will the crypto kittens problem be solved?
Post by: Lordmancer on December 06, 2017, 08:01:45 PM
Ethereum network is totally overloaded due to a single game.

How will it be solved?

Kittens is not really the issue, it's a symptom of a network with low fees being heavily used. There will be either network bloat and low fees which means not everyone is capable to run a full node, or a fee market will emerge, meaning microtransactions will be forced out.

This is why Bitcoin's transactions are where they are because we need a fee market, otherwise even 1GB blocks would be full with everyone's morning coffee and potentially hundreds of kittens-like projects.

I have an EIP pending to make ETH hyperlocal dapps compliant. That way ETH will become faster as well as localized for incident containment..

You may request to increase it's priority: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2479576.msg25382657#msg25382657

This is a tricky one, requiring more programmes to deal with, such as a BTC expansion programme, or other schemes to increase the speed of transfers.

The network is not capable of doing the amount of transactions that people require at the moment, when casper comes in, this may change.

So far there is only one answer ETH has been giving everytime there is a problem in their coin. Maybe they would fork again to solve this problem given by these kittens. I thought ETH is an answer to fast transaction and low fees but then this game exposed me to the reality. Hope the devs solve this problem soon.

I hope the ETH dev team can solve this problem asap. I know this problem since June this year when the ICO market was very hot and the network was crowded. Without solving this problem, there is no future.

I've read that the theoretical maximum speed of Ethereum network is 30 transactions per sec. The only way to solve this issue is to jump into Proof of Work.

it is not a problem to be fixed it is a feature that can not be removed!

the ethereum network allows people to do this and no matter what change you make, it will still allow them to do this. that is what ETH is supposed to do after all! to let people create things like this on their platform and let others participate in however they want.
the issue is that it can not handle this many transactions despite them saying it can. the "can handle" in this context doesn't necessarily means it is capable of doing so.

in short the only way to solve this issue is if people stop using ethereum, whether it is for playing cryptokitties, or participating in ICOs or simply transferring it from their wallets to exchanges to dump.
and pretty soon i am expecting more of these games to show up because this first one had a lot of popularity. and people are already looking for ways to copycat the shit out of it....

The best way to solve the problem is to create crypto-dogs who can hunt the crypto-kittens.

we are all annoyed even frustrated experiencing this, whatever the developers think. they give a statement that we have to raise the gas, I've tried but my transaction still failed and pending.

for all those that got gen 0 kitties it's not a problem  ;) it's just a problem for the rest of us!

The issue is the scalability of the ethereum network was not enough to run dapps. Kitties just an example about how the dapps will work. as you can see as the first working dapps and it comes to give a lot of the new knowledge for everyone about how the dapps will be implemented. Vitalik has learned a lot from ktties.

Well the developers of ethereum should be ashamed to themselves they are useless,a game that cause the whole network slowed down LMAO.

I think they will solve it. In the worst case scenario they will fork it.

The question is, what is their plan to go mainstream? What will happen when they have thousands of games in their network?

Find out the problem and solve the problem. In this way, there is a new technology to solve the root, to develop, and to see how the team can solve it

This is a serious problem that has shown us the weakness of Ethereum..lots of people have been stucked for days and this should never happen.
Maybe a fork can solve this problem...but Vitalik and his team still have lots to do to improve their platform and offer a better service. ;)

This problem is more like "design flaw" to be honest. Currently, Ethereum by design cannot process more transactions. Conesquently pool of pending transactions is rising.

There are two possible solutions: one short term and another long term

Short term solution: Just wait. CryptoKitties will eventually lose the hype and unclog the network
Long term solution: design changes to increase max. number o possible transactions per seconds

As a result, no "dev team" will be able to deploy a quick fix and make it disappear. Sad but true.
