Title: Litecoin or Monero
Post by: DaddyDukes on December 07, 2017, 12:35:19 AM
Hi Guys,

I'm a noob to the crypto space but have some money in BTC and ETH, if you were going to get a 3rd coin would you go with XMR or LTC?  I like the anonymity with Monero but get worried that govts could intervene.....Leaning towards LTC.

Any help would be great, thanks.

For me Monero or XMR would be the best choice, if there will be a bitcoin crackdown or getting bitcoin holder to pay tax then moneros privacy will be good for everyone who don't want being interrogated with such things in the future , monero big room for growth and is cheaper while the latter cheap but just an alternative for bitcoin.

i choose monero. I've read about their support and privacy and also the anonymity of the users which will really give you no worries to earn more. Their team are full of trustworthy personnel in which i think is the best way to look for coins.

Monero is a privacy coin... they wont even know you own Monero if you are careful

Privacy coins will be wave of the future. Why do you want to show all your wealth on the blockchain so that your neighbour can see all your transactions?

If you are not sure — make a smart decision and split your money into these two coins.

I guess, Monero can reach a $1000 next year, but can't say anything about Litecoin.
It depends on the actions of Charlee Lee and his team. I'm looking on Litecoin few years, I like the idea and like the team, but still think that Litecoin lacks something more substantial than the status of the first clone of Bitcoin. Litecoin lacks huge real usage examples. Like partnership with some big market (Amazon, Alibaba, Aliexpress etc.). This can push prices high up.

Monero for sure. I bought some lite coins several months ago and have made some $ but nothing compared to if I had invested in monero

LTC is not unique enough

Monero is going to rule one day very soon

Monero and it is not even close my friend. What do you mean you are worried about the government intervening? It is a privacy coin that makes it so you can't detect which account sends to which account. That literally will hide you through and through your worry should be no worry here. Also do take a look into other privacy coins too like DeepOnion, Cloakcoin, Dash, Zcash, and more they all will have loads to offer the industry in 2018. There will need to be safe havens again and privacy coins will be there to help those in need.

Ok thanks for the info.  Someone said the govt would make the exchanges stop selling the coin etc... basically find ways to make the coin not usable or to a bare minimum(criminals only).  Why I don't believe everything I read obv but just trying to digest it all.  The comment saying if I owned Minero could go to jail is what through me off....

Thanks again.

Do you actually believe that?? a comment from an anonymous person on the internet?

I also recommend Monero, It's one of the most undervalued altcoins out there, but it's been getting a lot of attention lately, and the price has gone up a lot for the past several weeks. You should do some research about XMR and you'll see its potential. To me, it's one of the most promising cryptocurrencies.

If we see from negative side,  monero will give chance to people to bad thing such buy drug, murder and maybe money loudering because it is fully anonymous.
But in other side, i also like monero to invest in.

both are good, but if I have to choose, I will take monero. as you say, i also like the anonymity of monero. but litecoin is also good and ltc is the first altc in crypto. if you want to buy both it is better and i am sure both will be very valuable in the future.

I choose xmr to be an option against the existing options because the xmr price is not high which is much different with
ltc so for a good long term investment is xmr although it has to wait a long time but i sure will go up

my advice is you can go with both monero and litecoin together. if you like the anonymity then you can go with monero only and leave litecoin. the choice is up to you but you still have a chance to buy both coins as this coin is not getting high so far. but for litecoin, I think litecoin is already reached the highest price before but now the price is still in the bottom and waiting to increase again.

Governments will totally restrict this currency. And that is the main point why it would have value. It is decentralized and anonymous. What more can you wish?

If you want to keep your privacy within your transactions keep monero, and if you want a stability in your portfolio then keep litecoin.

I believe LTC has serious plans for bringing crypto to the mass market. So, it has a huge potential compared only to ETH potential.

But on the other hand Monero has a huge potential as the worlds best anonymous currency.

2027 market caps:

1. Everyday currency that works with smart devices and smart contracts. Super simple, instant and free transactions.
2. XX coin
3. XX coin
4. Btc (perhaps at 200k per token but only used as digital gold, not used by most people)
5. XX token
6. XX token
7. Monero, expensive to transact (even if will get cheaper soon), complicated to deal with (for most people) but hiding money will always be attractive.

Thanks for the responses, I read on a reddit forum in which someone said you eventually could go to jail for owning monero......kinda made me second guess.

Please tell me that you don't believe this because some users in reddit sometimes do speculate rumors.
Probably the reason the unknown person said that one could be jailed for owning Monero is because this coin is mostly used in the Dark Net. Buyers and sellers there use it in other not to trace their transactions, so its sort of heavily patronized there.

Moreover, Its not the coin's fault that mostly dark net users makes use of it. I believe every coin has it own uniqueness and so does Monero; been anonymity is it uniqueness and that is why most people still go for it.
So between Litecoin and Monero, I will definitely go for Monero because it has the potential to make impact in years to come, and also compete with Bitcoin.

For speculation purposes, i would go to monero, but the private coins make me uncomfortable ... I believe there must be some degree of regularization in cryptoworld, just by regularization coins can become more popular and usual for all, and only then, they will really help the people who are in need most.

Both are respectable coins with solid history, development, and brand recognition. They both focus on two different objectives at the moment.

Don't let the privacy aspect of Monero turn you away. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a private coin. Why should your bank get to monitor and record data on every purchase you make? Imagine 100 years ago if someone told everyone that in the future every single thing they purchase would get to be recorded and sold to advertisers. People wouldn't accept that, neither should people today.

I think monero will be the best because its price growth is high when compared to the litecoin so if you have some monero in your wallets then it will give huge returns in some years. But litecoin also a good altcoin to invest for long term but between these two XMR is my option.

You can go with the Monero because the its value grows more than other currency even it faster than litecoin's growth as well. Please for sometime within some months again we can again going to get the big fund for just investing on it.
If you please the doing mining also these both the coin have been used as the main purpose mining coins with your mining farm. There are many coins in the market which is been used to mine the btc and alts. I see that monero and ltc are better coin in that.

Litecoin is similar to bitcoin (even if transactions are faster and cheaper), Monero has a more unique use case since the transactions are private by default. I would hold both but if have to choose one would be XMR

I will choose lite coin because it has potential and it is cheap to buy in todays date. So that would be best coin to choose really and believe me monero is kind of costly and not worthy. Its on my list no matter what but you told me to choose from LTC and XMR thats why I'm putting my stakes on the LTC more as I believe in it really. :-)

The market cap is more than the XMR so it can never have the bad future as it happened with some of the coins in the past. So better to choose LTC which is idle investment for now but could be aggressive in the future. :-)

I like both of them

Monero and Litecoin both have very strong and positive community.
They have not been seen in any kind of scams (prove me wrong)
Both coins are adult enough. Monero focused on privacy, Litecoin on speed and stability.

So if you choose between these two coins — my suggest is split your money 50/50
You probably will lose some profit next year but in a long-term, you will take a good money.

If you analyse the recent months you can see that when btc rose also ltc rose in a paralel way. So if you think short term and if you have 2 choices I would say its a time for LTC now as XMR has done his thing by rising so much

You'd be surprised at how much fiat and traditional banking and finance are the ones helping criminals, and not crypto. Of course, Monero is the current darling of dark markets, but not all dark market activities are criminal (as opposed to just being illegal).

Of course, we are all free to make our choices. I like Monero a lot, but I happen to think Litecoin has a much better future, with a very excellent development team that will take the project forward for many, many years to come.

Buy Monero hands down. Privacy will be the future. Actually DASH is looking pretty good to at the moment. Look into it.

These coins are completely anonymous. And this in the future will make them popular. I think that Monero has more advantages than the LTC. Therefore, I recommend investing in Monero

I have to say this community is awesome and really appreciate the feedback from everyone, I will probably invest into both.  Not sure if this matters but I'm looking to hold these for long term, not looking for short term gains at all.

On a side note, do most people think ETH will catch up to BTC or be right below it?

You already own two cryptocurrencies that are considered the most valuable in today's crypto market and with the rise of bitcoin value I honestly think the best coin to add to your investment portfolio should be Monero.. as feel governments sooner or later will start to intervene with all sorts of regulations to get digital currencies under their control.

If your portfolio includes such coins as the etherium and Bitcoin, you can initially understand why the choice fell on this crypto currency. But How can you be confident in the prospects of monero and lightcoin?

You should diversify and if you are going to do that you should pick these two coins, each has their own features and roadmap both are in the top place and has wide community support and keeps developing, so instead of looking for new newly launched to invest go for these two strong coins.

Don't think because it is really popular, if you notice more individuals and investors are confidently invest to this altcoin because they see their potential to adopt in any situation inside the crypto currency.

While litecoin is also good to invest but I think you need to make a strong decision before invest in this coin. In my observation behavior of this altcoin are a little bit function in crypto currency industry. So just think many time before you choose between the two.

LTC is an old project, which can no longer give a big profit in a short time. This coin is suitable for long-term investments. Monero can easily become more expensive several times in 2018 imo.

Title: Re: Litecoin or Monero
Post by: Inc_BitSquirrel on December 08, 2017, 10:36:16 AM
Long story short: Both are great! However, if you already hold some BTC IMHO LTC would be better suited for you

- LTC is very simillar when it comes to technology as well as overall concept to BTC (it will be easier to understand for you)
- LTC future is tightly connected with BTC (especially when Lightning Network will be implemented fully on both)

Monero is awesome technology, but if you are Crypto noobie, it might be a little bit too tricky for you. Nevertheless, you should not be worried about government regulations over Monero. Monero is one of the most secure (if not the most secure) crypto there. I doubt any government will be ever able to ban it.

In long term,  you should think about investing in both, so you can diversify your invesments. However, maybe you should wait a little bit as market is going crazy about BTC right now.

I would definitely go with Monero out of those two.

I don't have either of those coins, so I am impartial - but you have no way of knowing that is true! So definitely make your own decision. The comment about going to jail just for owning Monero sounds quite bizarre, and I wouldn't believe that at all.

I think that Monero has a lot more potential just because of its privacy focused features.
We're now seeing that governments are doing everything they can to track Bitcoin transactions and balances just so they can tax it.

You don't have that problem with Monero and that's what makes it valuable, something that's only going to matter more in the future.

Hehe I agree, for so long now he doesn't care about promoting, just working working on the tech and seems so careless when people want him to hype LTC. But now all of a sudden he seems to start banging the ltc drum and smirking. My guess is breakthrough in scalability + atomic swaps with btc will allow ltc to return to 3rd place.

Privacy coins will be wave of the future. Why do you want to show all your wealth on the blockchain so that your neighbour can see all your transactions?

Thanks for the responses, I read on a reddit forum in which someone said you eventually could go to jail for owning monero......kinda made me second guess.

Honestly if you have the capital and are comfortable taking losses sometimes I would just invest in both. If you keep current with events and prices you can hedge your investments as you go. I think the market is way too speculative and fragile to really make any accurate predictions. I just think a wide portfolio is better than a narrow one right now for alternative coins if you can afford it. my main concert with Monero. I like the technology behind it and everything else, but let's be honest - it's currently used mostly for dark net / illegal stuff. I think governments, when they start to crack down cryptos, will first start looking at coins that offer anonymity.

Monero is a good choice to be the third coin you'd like to have. It's secure,  private,  untraceable,  and fungible. I think it brings additional value to the cryptocurrency market because of its huge focus on privacy. Many people may fall in love with Monero because of that reason which would lead to the growth of the price.

Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open source software project released under the MIT/X11 license. Creation and transfer of coins is based on an open source cryptographic protocol and is not managed by any central authority.

Monero is an open-source cryptocurrency created in April 2014 that focuses on privacy, decentralization, and scalability that runs on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and FreeBS

both are Good..

yeah i agree. both coins are worth to keep but if i had to choose one then id also choose monero because i like the way it was built to the fact that this coin is verry secure and private or anonymous unlike to some other coins like bitcoin which was not really anonymouse because the public can still see's and possibly trace you by just linking on your recent transaction in a particular bitcoin address. litecoin on the otherhand is also best when it comes to usage like sending because its network can respond verry fast without restrictions or any problems. it also has a cheaper transaction fees when compared to some other coins out there and lastly it has a big potential when it comes to trading.

Monero = Best privacy coin so far.

I'd buy half of each.

Everyone is going to get together for Christmas and will be talking about crypto, the new entrants will buy BTC, ETH & LTC. This will drive up the price of LTC for sure.

Litecoin has picked up from April 2017 and set its standard now in the market. In last 15 days, we have a hike of $70 plus. Please go ahead and invest in Litecoin. Both LTC and Monero has shown some positive traction in last few weeks. I feel both got a huge potential to grow. If you ask to choose one between these two then I will go with LTC. Monero got some good feature to protect your anonymity but this is also its drawback coz no govt. will ever adopt it as a legal transaction mode.
But if you take a short-term view say for 6 months then you can choose any of them, both will give you best ROI.

Of course the answer is litecoin. But you are comparing apples with bananas. They are in different market. Yes they are both crypto but monero aims to privacy and litecoin is aiming to community and bitcoin alternative.
So the answer remain same litecoin.

And then we shall see, will be the winner community or the drugs? hehe, just joking, not only drugs mate, beside that some guns too, and other illegal shit... Well I'am not saying I'm supporting all this shit, but privacy coin is still good way to hide your wealth. I choose you Monero! (offcourse, I'll hodl both). I like them both apples and bananas, but I like apples even more. :D

As you mentioned litecoin is aim to community and sometimes litecoin is referred as silver version of bitcoin so there are high chance for litecoin price will hugely increase but monero is also not a bad coin so I will choose both coins for investment.

LiteCoin noted a huge price jump. It's amazing, but his course has increased by a huge difference. I would definitely bet on him, because in my opinion he is gaining more and more popularity and strength.

Data storage security with Litecoin, leaves much to be desired. You can not say about Monero.

No wonder that the leader in security operations is considered, Monero. Cryptocurrency is becoming more popular, regardless of the purpose of the operations. Information about transactions in Monero securely hidden.
I would advise you to keep in your portfolio both coins. Never know which altcoin will give more profit.

i like both 2 coins.
If I were you, I will choose Monero. Below are some reason.
- LCT has just had big jump, so its price will stay for a time. Price of Monero is kind of regular raising, so there might be a chance of big jump in near future.
- I hear good things about privacy of Monero.
- When you say litcoin or monero...the choice tend to Monero (the final option)

Good catch for short trade, as support follows the value will bounce back and a quick profits will be in your hands, this two coins have their own support level and if you can trace or chase them from time to time, both are good for long term goal as they still have more updates and progress to provide.

Monero is better than Litecoin but when Bitcoin and Ethereum have problem in transaction. Then Litecoin become new king for a while because it have low fee ( 0.01Ltc per transaction equal to 3$) lots of lower than Bitcoin fee ( 0.002Btc equal to 30$)

some people have a different views , thats why op is asking for a short survey on which people prefer on both of these coins therfor you cant say that litecoin will always be the obvious winner here. op does not also comparing apple with bananas and they are not in different market because both of them are still the same altcoin and both of them are crypto, both of them can also be used as alternative to bitcoin because they called alternative coins . in my case i will go on both because both of them has a potential for trading and investing.

Here on the contrary do not need to fear that monero can deny. Ban can Lite and with it nothing can be done. More faith in anonymous cryptocurrencies are the future.
But invest better in both.now litecoin is already very much up there should be a period of decline. I would invest 70% of monero 30% lite

Good explanation of LTC , it is the testnet but it is always going to be the little brother of BTCring

Monero on the other hand has ring signatures and will always be the preferred token to use when you want privacy.

Don't assume that because you want privacy that it is for something illegal.

I have drapes on my windows not because I am doing thing illegal but because I want some privacy

XMR has a great future. I wish I had more but am accumulating now

XMR no doubt is the best pick for anonymity but don't just forget that Litecoin pumped recently so having both of it is one of the best combination to have these on your portfolio. There are many things to come for these two altcoins they aren't just going to be forgotten easily. I'm waiting for XMR to pump up to $1,000 and today you may laugh at me but who knows next year if the price of Monero reaches my expected price. There's nothing impossible now with crypto's.

Let's think more deeply. Usually why do people use bitcoin? For anonimity, correct. Is there better alternative? Maybe yes and that's monero. What's litecoin? Another bitcoin. So there is one thing better in anonimity than bitcoin and litecoin. Also remember bitmixer's statistics, they were mixing huge amounts of bitcoin, as owner claimed 1 million btc (if I am correct). So monero will be used widely on darknet after bitcoin. They also play important role if coin's economy. So I would go on Monero proudly.

Though litecoin's progress is a bit slow but it sure has potential and between the two, litecoin is more established than monero and with its technolgy, litecoin delivers better which means it has better technology and better technilogy invites or attracts more investors and users hence, increase in coin value is very much likely.

this is solely my Opinion and Observation about the Litecoin i might be right or i might be wrong.. it up to you to evaluate.

im not a fan of LTC but im holding some of it in my portfolio i got in LTC when it was
only $63 Dollars and still have it unto this very day, the price of LTC now is currently $309
im not having much of Litecoin but not Regret to have and hold it in span of 5 months already,
and im deciding now to still hold it for long term for i see that it will still grow in price and usage also around the global.

LTC is one of the Pioneer Coin on Crypto so in my perspective LTC has still a lot of potential
growth beside many altcoin out there.

and also LTC is much Faster , Cheaper more than BTC you might want to considered it long term as a key factor of a potential growth of LTC in the Market beside it is being use now Globally and
it's the only altcoin beside BTC on Some of the BTC Machine..

It´s hard to choose between these two coins. They have a total different usage. Monero is the best privacy coin and Litecoin is the little brother of BTC. For me Monero will have the bigger gains in 2018, because the need of privacy coins will increase. LTC is better than BTC because of the lower fees and faster transactions. The development on LTC is also faster than on Bitcoin because of the community.

If you are searching for the full anonymity of your transactions you should choose Monero and if you are searching for the coin that is similar to Bitcoin choose Litecoin. These both coins have great capabilities of improvement. Their technology is surpassing the other coins and there is also the space for more improvement for both of them. Monero is the king of the anonymity and it is attracting the many new users towards its base. Litecoin is following the Bitcoin growth because it is based on the same technology Bitcoin is based. When the Bitcoin is growing Litecoin is growing. You must make a decision on which coin you will benefit better. I would personally choose Money because it has the unique technology that is improving every day.

The fact that you are comparing two coins is because you find it hard which is better coz those two coins are already good. Try to split your investment on them. They both have different usage and if somehow someday one of them will shine over the other but you invested the other one, you might regret it.

We have been trying to overcome many regrets in crypto due to selling earlier, choosing one over the other but the one you invested did not shine as the other and many more. For me, to avoid all of that, whenever I came to to question of which is which, I would rather split my investment and invest slowly. Whenever I get extra money, I slowly put them on my coins and hodl.

Litecoin is called the Bitcoin Silver and has still much potential, but the future will be on cryptocurrencies with high privacy. Monero is one of them and eligible to keep savings safe in countries, where cryptocurrencies are banned. Monero can't be tracked and is based on a stable secure technology.  But in midterm it is no mistake to keep also Litecoin because of its awesome upgrade last year with cheap and fast transfers.

Both are promising, however Litecoin as a little brother of  Bitcoin will follow the trend of developments in Bitcoin, while Monero as privacy coin will have different and his own path.

Why not invest in both?  Litecoin is proven and has stability but privacy and anonymity, i.e. untraceability and untrackability, will continue to gain traction as well as adoption, which is where Monero has more upside and has capitalized upon this.  Some say this caters to illegal activity but the same has been said and continues to be said about Bitcoin, which is a weak straw man argument as the same can be said for fiat.  As a matter of fact, exponentially more illegal activity is conducted in fiat than crypto.  Whatever you have allocated for this investment, perhaps go 40% Litecoin and 60% Monero.

Some say Monero and with good reasons, but I would personally go with Litecoin even if it has a strong dependency on the price of Bitcoin, it had a quite stable run taking into account its long existance so far, and chances for a crash are low.

Hi Guys,

I'm a noob to the crypto space but have some money in BTC and ETH, if you were going to get a 3rd coin would you go with XMR or LTC?  I like the anonymity with Monero but get worried that govts could intervene.....Leaning towards LTC.

Any help would be great, thanks.

I think both of them are promising and valuable coins. Their prices are really good according to the most of other altcoins. But in my opinion, monero has a better price curve than litecoin.
