Title: Exodus desktop wallet security??
Post by: btcwish1 on December 07, 2017, 08:00:05 AM
Dear friends,

I know hardware wallet is safest but I don't find hardware wallet user friendly.  So, i prefer to use desktop wallet Exodus.

I am quite happy with exodus. What is the security risk it may have?  If for any reason exodus decide to shut down their company , do you think I can still use it considering it runs directly from my desktop??

I backed up the private key so even if they shut down, I can still get my btc??

thanks

If you follow the instructions, I've always considered the major hardware wallets to be extremely user friendly.  Make sure not to just write them off.

-Their code is closed source, so even though this is unlikely, they could implement malicious code without our knowing.

-Hardware wallets are not affected by the viruses that plague PCs - if you get a virus it could potentially steal your BTC.
I backed up the private key so even if they shut down, I can still get my btc??
Yes.

Thanks for reply. I just don't find hardware wallet user friendly. It could be just me...  I find exodus very users friendly. I have btc in coinbase and kraken. Do you think it will be good idea to bring them on exodus considering I will have my private key in exodus but not in coinbase and kraken?

Absolutely. Never store your long-term coins in a web wallet/exchange/service that doesn't offer you full access over your private-keys. There were already many cases where storing your coins in a third-party resulted in users losing all their money. Always keep your coins in a wallet you control.
