Title: USB Block Erupter by ASICMINER question - used in combo with existing dual GPU'
Post by: #Darren on July 11, 2013, 05:22:04 AM
If I have a motherboard running to 7970's and a good amount of memory and good base system power, can I just plug a few of these into the USB port without diminishing the performance of the existing cards?  Would there be any other adverse effects or issues?

Also, do these work for litecoin as well?

I believe you can mine both with USB Erupter and GPUs without any problems, but USB Erupter cannot be used to mine Litecoin or other scrypt coin.

I am mining with a 7950 GPU and 15 USB ASICMINERS without any problems. I use GUIMINER with the GPU and get 600 MH/S and am using BFGMINER with the USB Miners.

I'm mining with a 5xxx series GPU card and 17 erupters at once all controlled by one instance of cgminer.

I mine with 3 GPU's and 1 Block Erupter and I have total control with cgminer.  I can mine in one instance of cgminer all on BTC, or I can mine BTC with just the USB and scrypt altcoins with the GPU's.  It's pretty sweet actually.

i am planning on setting this up soon. is it straight forward? just install drivers for the USB miners and cgminer will automatically pickup?

Apologies if this has been asked before..
is 1 instance of cgminer USB Erupters only mining for BTC and an additional instance of cgminer GPU only mining scrypt possible on the same PC?
Seems a waste to have a dedicated USB only PC and all the time LTC is showing some profit I'd like to do both.
(If my Erupters ever turn up....  >:( )

I have an instance of BitMinter running all my Block Eruptors for BTC, and GUIMiner running the GPUs for LTC. No problems, even for a mining newbie.

This is what I am doing I use a dual quad core 3ghz on my dell t5400 comp for mining litecoins and run 1 erupter from my other comp,  will be buying 5 more usb erupters with a usb hub now so i am mining both LTC and BTC at the same time :)
