Title: need help retrieving Bitcoins from legacy app
Post by: toanxtoan on December 07, 2017, 11:09:08 PM
Hi folks.

I'm trying to retrieve a wallet i had back in the day. The wallet gave me an encrypted address, and a 15 letter password with checksum, I have both. I do think I have the correct encrypted address, but i looks nothing like the ones i see online.

I change the actual letters but my encrypted address looks like this:
DaZtbqPRALEBsNmbnAvFeseoGraiPDLz

I tried making a QR img online with this address but when i scan it, it says unrecognized format. Someone please help me? thanks!

Could you pls provide further information for us to be able to help you?
What wallet did you use? Do you know which encryption algorithm was used?
Are you sure your wallet gave you an encrypted address instead of an encrypted private key? or both?
Because with only the encrypted address (public key) and the password you will be able to decrypt the address but without the private key
you won't be able to spend the coins. The name of the wallet would be pretty helpful.

It's quiet useless providing encrypted address. Do you have your encrypted private key? If so then try making a QR img with that then scan it. After that, try making another wallet for security purposes since you are using an app to make QR. It would not recognized because it's just an encrypted address.

Anyway, provide the information asked by the guy above me. It would help solving your case.

guys, thanks for the replies.

The wallet is Mycellium ver 1.3.3 that i DL in 2014.

The key pasted above is actually the encrypted private key (not address), and then to protect it further, they gave me a password to decrypt the key. I have tried creating the QR from the key above and scanning it with the new mycelium app but it said "format not recognized." also, my address is only alphabet letters, but the example of encrypted key from this link here has also numbers.
