I want to build my first mining rig. I read somewhere in this forum that the popular Celeron G1840 processor may not be powerful enough for some algorithms. I want to install up to 6 GTX 1080(Ti) for Monacoin/Vertcoin mining. An alternative processor which I have in mind is the G3260 (2x 3.3 GHz). Or should I better install an Intel i3? The cost difference between most socket 1150 Pentiums and Celerons shouldn't be too big, if you're looking in the right places. Pretty much any Pentium should be fine running your GPU rig. If you think you'll want the CPU for a later desktop (possible, but Haswell/Broadwell are only getting older), then you may be able to justify the i3. Otherwise, a Pentium G3260 should suffice. Title: Re: Which CPU for 6x GPU mining rig (Lyra2v2 algorithms) Post by: tenebriscaelum on December 09, 2017, 04:06:35 AM The G1840 and G3260 have the same LGA 1150 and it will not be a problem to use either of the two because the algorithm for mining will be handled by the 6 GTX 1080Ti unless you would also use your CPU for mining which is unlikely. The problem here is within the motherboard even if you would have a good motherboard for either CPU would it be able to handle the 6 GTX 1080Ti that you would put in it. And even if it does I would suggest that got for the G3260 or if you haven't bought any hardware yes better go to a newer generation like a Pentium G4400 and a good H110 motherboard.
