Title: Rain Droplet open decentralized community credit
Post by: Daniel on December 31, 2010, 01:31:59 PM
Announcing the availability of Rain Droplet, an open decentralized community credit service:

https://raindroplet.info/

You can use this free and open site to share credit with your community. This was discussed recently with respect to Ripple, the technology on which Rain Droplet is based:

http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1937.0

While there are other Ripplized services, Rain Droplet includes a default Bitcoin denomination, and will continue to work on improvements that would serve this community and the public.

At this point Rain Droplet is still new, and has lots of room to grow. You may have to add a CA Cert certificate for your browser to recognize the site certificate.

Please give it a try and share your feedback. You can discuss Rain Droplet and Ripple in the Ripplexchange forums, and also find people with whom to trade:

https://ripplexchange.com/

Here you can also acquire Ripple support, hosting, and VoIP for Bitcoin or Ripplized pay:

https://ripplexchange.com/net/

Again, please try out Rain Droplet and share your thoughts!

Well, fwiw, i have signed up :)

I think that once the credit rating and credit network exploration features are developed, this will become a very good trust metric for the bitcoin community. (E.g., if I trust user1, and I see that he has given an unknown-to-me user2 a nice credit line... I'll be inclined to trust user2 as well to some extent.)

Eventually, we could even transition the OTC web of trust (http://trust.bitcoin-otc.com) over to ripple, maybe. :)

Count me in. I was in contact before with the ripplepay site owner about something just like this. Glad to see someone took the initiative :)

hopefully the credit-network features will eventually be merged into main ripple project... but for now, we need some dev work to get stuff operational in raindroplet, so if anyone is up for helping out with the dev, feel free to pipe up. :)

Anybody thought about what lending is like in a deflationary environment?   Think about it.

That means I must not set an interest rate. It is like saving. When I get it back it is worth more.

EDIT: The best part is that I cannot double spend and must wait for it to come back. :D

I'm getting a certificate error for https://raindroplet.info/.  Is this correct?  Is the certificate broken or do we have a man in the middle problem?

It's using a CAcert certificate. CAcert is not a widely-trusted certificate authority. You can safely add an exception for the site, though.

Now that Ripplepay lets users choose BTC, how does Rain Droplet distinguish itself?

Only Rain Droplet offers credit scoring, and Rain Droplet has an easier-to-use interface, good support, and other benefits.

We're working together and publishing openly, so I'd encourage you to try out the options -- but Rain Droplet is the most awesome! :)
