Title: Help me crack my bip38 wallet from 0.02BTC.
Post by: fatengineer on December 09, 2017, 07:19:47 AM
I know the odds, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
Few months back (October 2017), I generated a bunch of paper wallets protected with the BIP38 password, which doesn't seem to work when I try to spend the funds. I used https://www.bitaddress.org on chrome on windows 10. I'm offering 0.02BTC to anyone who is able to crack the password.
Here's what I know: I believed the password to be fOlder.5645 , Which is obviously not working. Other passwords I regularly use are : Mukesh.2015, Mukesh.7565 Bhanwari. 7565 , etc so basically I always have one word with one letter in uppercase and then a 4 digit pin code and a '.' between them. I may have used some entirely new word in the first part but that's unlikely, I am still 90% certain that it's a variation of 'folder'.

I have tried many variations of the above but no luck. You can try your guesses on a different, empty paper wallet encrypted with the same password - it is from the same batch (of which I'm sure, they are on the same physical sheet of paper):

Is there any change, that you generated those addresses in a mac?

There was a bug related to bitaddress.org, that if you created the address using some version of safari (was it 5 or 6 ?), then you can only decrypt the key in the exact same version of safari....

here is a link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=416324.10;imode (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=416324.10;imode)
it also talks about a faulty encrypted key starting with 6P...
Your key starts with the same 6P...

Edit: Apparently the correct ones start with 6P...  too. So cant make any conclusions about that.

I sent you the password in a personal message.
If true, can you explain how you did this?

it seems to be resolved as you can see there is a tx out of 17ahjBaWUdqtRj7mQrbq81bzob7EkFuc3G (https://blockchain.info/address/17ahjBaWUdqtRj7mQrbq81bzob7EkFuc3G)
somehow lstjqsjjpdzs actually figured out the pass or the OP just remember his own password  ;D

I generated a password list with btcrecover and used a Python script to try the passwords.

I am sorry, what exactly are you doubting? An example script can be found here (https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover/issues/88).

You had to combine that with btcrecover right (per what they were saying on git) ? You should publish it, might help some people.
