At the top left there is the "Show unread posts since last visit" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=unread and it takes you to the unread posts screen. Alternatively, you can go to a forum/subforum and click the "notify" link - If you have setup email notifications, you will receive email if someone posts a new thread/post.
