Post by: Morbid on July 15, 2013, 09:20:45 AM
hi. i got 50ghs single ordered. i did 10ghs upgeade for $500 assuming i will get two jalopenos extra. now i read that singles produce 60ghs as standart. does that mean ill receive one single and i just gave them $500 for free? doesnt sound fare at all.

Depends on when ordered. If it was recent then delivery might not happened till next year.

Not that I enjoy defending BFL but here is the question:

All Singles do NOT produce 60Gh, where did you get that data?

What did you buy?

Sounds like your bought a 50Gh unit.

Why were you expecting a pair of Jalapenos?

The price per GH from BFL has been $50 per since the price increase in April, so if you bought a 50gh unit and paid $2499 then you are getting what you paid for. If you wanted to have your 50gh upgraded to a 60gh then you have to pay $500 ($50 per)

i made order in april. i read in here somewhere that singles are in fact giving 60ghs output. so if i didnt upgrade id get 50ghs unit? i fear i paid $500 for nothing. can someone confirm that they will actually place more chips onto the PCB when upgrade is done. otherwise i gonna cancel the upgrade or pay $48 more and ask them for two jallos instead.

On a 50GH'er & a 60GH'er you get the same amount of chips, they just either use better chips &/or OC the chips.

Well,wait....they have 2 boards in one now,with 16 chips possible,so MAYBE you'll get the full 16.............

Seeing as you ordered in April,I gotta say you'll be waiting awhile, maybe till October or later, the way they are shipping as of now  :(

IMHO,you should have got in a Avalon group chip buy with that $500,add another $400 & you would have got 3-5GH units with assembled boards included, possibly by August...or sooner  :o

NO WAY,will I EVER buy from BFL again. The lies just take the cake................

My 30GH'er is doing fine, cept I should of had it by Jan instead of July  ::)

well since people are now flashing jalopenos to 8ghs then probably a 60ghs unit is a standart single box with factory overclocked firmware. ill try to cancel upgrade & get a normal single to be flashed by myself later on. im actually almost chatting to bfl customer service via email right now - very fast responses.

The only economically viable way to have both 50ghs and 60ghs units would be to grade the chips and use the ones that don't make the grade for the 60ghs units for the 50ghs units. It's possible that they won't have enough chips that work but won't clock high enough for the 60ghs units so it may very well be possible to overclock some or all of the 50ghs units. This is industry standard practise and the same reason that you can run your 3.4Ghz i5 2500k at 4.4Ghz.

if it was april and base price for 50 was 2499 but you payed for upgrade would make it 2999.. some earlrly orderers are grandfathered into the 60 when BFL decided to make the change to 60 gig for all units. but once the price went to 2499 for 50 which I think was before april then you pay for the upgrade and get 60.
