Title: New alts how about clear complete mining instructions
Post by: kelsey on July 16, 2013, 12:36:59 AM
Here's idea, when you develop new coin and ann it, how about crystal clear compete mining instructions.

Not just copy paste from others adding maybe some random notes on about a conf file. Think in terms even of those who have never mined before, because bringing new people from outside these circles is kinda a good idea.

Or we could get a whole bunch of guys to put together a magic internet search widget and put it in every browser, so anyone who wants to know how to compile programs on various operating systems, how to mine cryptocoins, or almost anything else can ask their browser!

Or of course certainly developers should not be discouraged from taking you up on your offer, which coin would you like to put together "proper" instructions for first? Its your choice after all, pick any, they are open source, you can make your own decision as to which you want to contribute such instructions first...

dude how dodgy half these are I wouldn't know where to begin

I am certainly no expert miner, hence my frustration, spent many hours mining various coins, only to realise I was not doing some miner thing, and it changes from coin to coin.

Oh well if its a matter of having someone else do work you want done, just go ahead and throw bounties at it.

I don't need the work done...hell too much trouble and I just bypass and move onto those coins with clear instructions, I am giving people advice on how to attract others to their coin.

If you don't have clear instructions you will build a barrier to those wanting to try.

I guess most want to instamine in this little closed circle....so then keep with the status quo......and let people like me avoid.

Actually to attract people to a coin its best not to bring up mining at all. It just confuses people, and it makes them start into the whole how come those guys get to print money, and it gets them trying to mine and losing more money on electricity let alone depreciation of equipment than it is worth and so on and so on.

So no, mining is terrible concept for attracting people to a coin. Cool stuff they can buy with it is much better, saving on transaction fees is much better, being able to send money to their relatives back at home is much better and so on.

Plus once they really get screwed up by the whole mining concept they start spawning endless clone coins worth less and less and generally just screwing themselves and everyone else out of whatever value there might once have been in the concept of a massively secured blockchain that all the hashing power in the world that is not hashing that chain isn't enough, all added together, to attack that chain.

but its kinda twisting the topic from what I was asking

and you really don't have to keep replying just for that sake of it.

... and it changes from coin to coin.

Unless you are talking about one of a very few blockchains, you can mine them all with the exact same scrypt/sha256 miners.

With a very few exceptions (4 or 5 I think at this time), every satoshi-based wallet sets up and solo mines with an external miner the exact same way. And those exceptions only mean you need a different miner, it's usually set up using the same normal settings.

Some of them have wallet mining and some don't.  The ones that wallet mine all work exactly the same way.

P2Pool mining is exactly the same for every coin.
