Title: Same seed on Electrum, Electrum-LTC & Electrum-Cash
Post by: Master1781 on December 12, 2017, 12:27:30 PM
I'm using Electrum to store BTC and saved my seed (that list of 12 words) when installing it. The seed is safely printed and totally offline.

I installed, then, the other releases of Electrum for LTC and Cash. So far no issue.

It's interesting, though, to notice that the same seed works on Electrum, Electrum-LTC & Electrum-Cash, generating the respective wallets for each of these coins.

My question is if it's a safe practice to reuse (importing) that same seed in all wallets, just out of convenience (to avoid creating 3 seeds when you can use just one).

I know that one individual seed for each wallet is indeed safer, but if we can be sure that the Master seed would never be online or compromised, is it safe to use just one? What are your ideas?

It all depends on how much you trust each wallet not to leak your seed/keys. If you are happy that Electrum, Electrum-LTC and ElectronCash are all secure enough... using the same seed should not be an issue.

The only real issue is that IF (for whatever reason) your seed is compromised, then ALL your wallets are at risk. However, it sounds like you're taking appropriate measures to ensure this does not happen.
