Title: Bitcoin TX still unconfirmed
Post by: free-bit.co.in on December 12, 2017, 06:08:41 PM
So...I have sent a TX like 2 hours ago and it's still unconfirmed.

I have sent the TX by the recommended Electrum dynamic fee.. Fee per byte: 270.222 sat/B, Fees: 0.000608 BTC

Here is the TX: https://blockchain.info/tx/9e2ce9e67199d4719616658b9f243e745c50880db52c37a6c680d3c3b249ab2d (https://blockchain.info/tx/9e2ce9e67199d4719616658b9f243e745c50880db52c37a6c680d3c3b249ab2d)

When will BTC get Lighting Network, or do something else to reduce the fee prices? I still remember when it was dirt cheap to sent BTC and was fast confirmed,too..

That's a very decent fee, but still, with the current mempool size, your transaction has a 90% chance of getting confirmed within the next 5 hours, according to this estimator: https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/ So you still have about 3 hours to wait, of course, it can confirm any time soon.

Dynamic fee recommendations try to give you the most efficient costs, while still having a chance to confirm relatively quickly. If you want a near-guaranteed confirmation in the next block, it would take 421 sats/byte at the moment.

If it's urgent, be advised to set your fee manually based on estimators as above.

The Lightning Network may take a long time to be implemented in major wallet services and have working implementations on mainnet that aren't buggy.  It's hard to put an exact timeline on that.

You could try receiving to a new SegWit address, and you should be able to send with somewhat lower fees as the network will treat your transaction as being smaller.

Of course, you could always set a low fee and let it take a long time in future.

You're welcome!

It's been happening less and less actually, but even several months ago I'd notice some pools in particular mine empty blocks. Unfortunately, (or not?), miners are free to decide which transactions in the mempool they want to include in the blocks they find. In fact, they don't even have to do it if they don't want to. The single transactions in those empty blocks are just the ones sending the block reward to their address (coinbase tx). Yeah, I guess at today's price, just depending on the block reward is now worth almost $200k.

Exactly why miners wouldn't want to include txs and earn fees, I don't really know. I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually slow down submitting their blocks, not since last upgrades.
