In the past few days, litecoin started growing really fast and it's now almost hitting 350$ on coinmarketcap. But what is the reason for it to grow this fast? Did they announce something big which I missed?

İt was so cheap against bitcoin price. Many of them thought if bitcoin gold pass the limit, litecoin as a silver can pass like btc. İf you want to know technically, litecoin chain efficient than bitcoin chain. Speed, less fee, no fork and developer work on it to make litecoin better.

But didn't they have that technology earlier (Litecoin)? Why would it suddenly go up?

Simply because now the need was obviously growing. Transaction time and fees are getting ridigulous for BTC. So obviously a lot of people now changing into Litecoin to transfer funds. But in general ALT coins were raising today, which is an interesting fact, after all those dercrease at the couple of weeks.

So Litecoin has the lowest fees and fastest transactions of (almost) all altcoins? And that's why litecoin specifically went up the most?

I think litecoin goes up because of the many requests with litecoin. these believers will coin eth. so they buy litecoin with a very large amount. if that happens then the litecoin votality will go up. so the price of litecoins becomes expensive. I think this is the right time for you to invest litecoin

It has been very undervalued for the last few months, but we should not forget that each litecoin was less than five dollars at the beggining of this year, and it is going to be worth $500 before 2018.

Litecoin has always diserved to be the on the top three, it is probably going to be the replacement of bitcoin when the fees get higher than they can not even touch the sun.

I have a theory, what if bitcoin is going to be a store of value, and litecoin is just a way to send payments? this could be a good co-operation.

Why bitcoin price was under 10k usd a couple weeks ago? Nothing goes better, if you are looking for a dynamic of pump-dump movement no one can now that. Whale dumping the price to get more, when they are assume enough from some coins and if that coins has a potential they pump it to the moon.

this is just the beginning; people found out about litecoin and wont stop investing anytime soon, i'm pretty sure 500 dollar in 2017 is an easy target which will be doubled somewhere in 2018. Litecoin is just a better version of bitcoin and it's been arround for years so it's not really suprising that it will follow in the bitcoin footsteps

Major issues with BTC is High transaction fees and more confirmation time. ETH also got a problem of network congestion from last few days.
As a alternative Litecoin or IOTA is best coz of fast transaction and low transaction fees. Old investors are shifting their invest from BTC to altcoin to gain more profit. Litecoin seem to be best option to them as it is reliable and accepted widely all around the world.

Agree. There's also a possibility that when BTC price rise up some people dump some of their BTCs to give chance and buy other altcoins, diversifying their investments so that they have more options to earn. It's amazing how LTC doubled its price as compared to 3-4 days ago.

I also think it is because of the influx of new investors. They look at Bitcoin and think it's too expensive so litecoin starts looking like an attractive alternative.

I think it was just about time. LTC have lighting network combined with cheap transactions. At this moment both ETH and BTC networks are flooded and people are looking for alternatives.

In my opinion, litecoin was very underestimated, and after bitter growth of bitcoin, attention was paid to it. I think its price will be fixed in the price of $ 300.

I never thought alternate coins have a chance to grow despite of bitcoin's drastic price hike that really hurt alternate currency holders. Since the value of every digital currency is determined by the law of Economics' supply and demand, it's safe to say that Litecoin's rise is due to the demand of people. I think you are right, there are many reasons. Coinbase is just one of them. The hot crypto market is the main reason in my opinion and LTC is an old and reliable coin.

I guess that the reason behind the rise is because of high fees of btc and the slow speed in transactions of btc. So people moved to the litecoin in order to reduce those problems.

We can be sure its due to multiple things, one of them were the Charlie Lee went into the television, wich had exposed a lot the coin, and since they replaced bitcoin with litecoin due to its being faster and cheaper, something that bitcoin had lost over the last years already. Litecoin can be used for daily transaction since usually requires few minutes to get the transaction confirmed, wich might be one of the reasons as well.

Here's my guess given we've also seen ethereum and ripple rise a lot in the last days. Futures and bitcoin breaking 15k made big news around the world and lots of people got interested. Many are skeptical about bitcoin and think it's maybe already near to the top and so they're looking for the 'next' bitcoin, then they end up the with 3 coins mentioned as they are 3 of the most known coins.

It's because transaction fees are getting higher and confirmation speed i getting slower the mempool is getting conjested and if you haven't paid your transactions with higher fees your block wont be processed immediately that's why people run into altcoins and that's why the price of some altcoins has dramatically increase. Some people saying that altcoins has superior technology but will it be still superior if they get millions users like bitcoin?

I think that is because Bitcoin's transaction fee is too high that is why investors are switching to a much cheaper with Lightning Network capability coin that is also has potential. Transaction fee is nearly to get into ten dollars for a transaction so that is a big deal when we are talking about a currency so meaning the lower the fee the better. I am not sure if the devs had announced something but one angle or factor I noticed just recently is that Ethereum platform experienced serious issue that is why I think investors switched to an alternative that is cheaper, safe and is something like Bitcoin. Litecoin is also my coin of choice but unfortunately sold mine due to an emergency. So I missed the ride again. :'(

Maybe also like bitcoin, because many people now are getting interested in litecoin. If you have it before for sure you earn a lot today, so they are so lucky right now. I don't really have a litecoin, I am just also wondering about the fast growing on it. And it is really amazing, it really rise so fast. Maybe it is not too late to buy litecoin.

Maybe it is because they want to join the trend of the rise of Bitcoin and Etherneum price.The litecoin developers want to recognize their coin once again in the market. Because of the rising of Bitcoin the other coins have no so much attention. So the litecoin make their move and that result to the rise of price of the litecoin.

Being the new adoption for transacting might be one of the reason of this sharp rise. The fees and confirmation speed is muvh lower and faster than Bitcoin. At the end its a currency and a great way to transact actually.

Just this past week I have had three people from my extended family get into crypto.
It's seriously gone viral and on its way to mainstream adoption.

For a lot of people, they first hear about bitcoin, set up their coinbase account, and then scoff at the high price of btc.
So they naturally gravitate towards ltc, the cheapest out of the three offered.

For many of these new investors, they really have no idea what they are buying, which will make 2018 an incredibly volatile year for crypto.
I think 2017 was the year that was good to almost all coins, then 2018 will see certain projects absolutely blow up and moon while others die a painful death.

The fight for the top 10 coins will be especially vicious so choose your coins wisely.

 i think this is the reason ,Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. According to Coindesk, Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed.

But isn't kinda weird that all those investers join litecoin at the same time and not earlier?

Litecoin simply served its purpose as an alternative coin. Since bitcoin is rising, making its price difficult to afford, people with low budget gets litecoin because it is cheap and everyone can afford it which makes the demand to increase.  That is really what alternative coin is for.

This coins which are also popular and have a lot of investors too cannot be left with just a little exchange to bitcoin.
The value from altcoin to bitcoin should still stay that is why I think they should also rise to make that equal again.
Some are getting nervous because they bought altcoins at a price of .5 bitcoin before and now they are holding it equivalent to only .25 bitcoin. That sucks. Although USD value is larger it is not fair.

regarding Litecoin it also is because bitcoin is building up a huge backlog of unconfirmed transactions and as a result the fees are rising so fast. that is a known cause for altcoin pumps this year.
additionally there is all the advertisement that LTC is getting these days as being the "better version of bitcoin"! believe it or not it is effective specially when the developer Charlie Lee is super active everywhere specially on Twitter promoting litecoin.

I agree with you litecoin rise so fast due to it has good investment and fees are good also than bitcoin transactions. Also, litecoin on top altcoins if we could hold today still we can earn. Litecoin is the best investment and still in demand.

There are four times as many LTC as there are BTC. So it was inevitable that the price of LTC would go up eventually to try to catch up with it's father Bitcoin. Remember now that many big institutional investors are coming into cryptocurrences now, so they would probably make portfolios of all the top cons anyway. That is what I think about this matter in general.

Then that is quite ironic because if LiteCoin keeps growing at this rate, it'll be difficult to afford aswell.

So many people knew thanks to the media that bitcoin made so many people rich. So they thought that there would be the first to enter to the LTC market.
Every newcomer went to open an account on coinbase or kraken to buy LTC, that's why the price is completely over valued right now and it will fall in some days.

That's my opinion about the rise, and why coinbase or other platform were overloaded.

Here is my take on the Litecoin rise - its not rocket science - I think its multiple things aside from whats just been discussed it' s also

1. global news about bitcoin bringing new investors in looking for a cheaper (faster, higher tech etc) alternative to invest in

2. the american futures market opening up bitcoin options trading means a truckload of investors including savvy institutional investors and those who hold the reins of big investor blocks are suddenly seeing this new associated credibility for an industry that has growth beyond any other sector right now - doing the asseement & reading al lthe articles saying Litecoin is the one that has the most undervalued price.

3. more general crypto traders than ever seeing the rise & jumping aboard.

4. if its been listed on more exchanges that will also be a factor - opening up new markets

The main reason due to which all coins has started rising because if the future started trading on the exchange. And that too it started with 18k so it means that price is expected to rise further from here. Thus in anticipation all the altcoins have started rising and those which are old and existed from a long time have started rising now. Coinbase accepted litcoin on it's platform. Many people also are you litecoin as alternative to bitcoin in transacting  and transaction. I do not see any development going on in litecoin but it could be best use for transaction if bitcoin become impossible to use!

I think litecoin price increase so fast nowadays, because of people changing their minds to place their investments to Litecoin. With bitcoin and crypto making the 9 O Clock news and bitcoin making the front page of newspapers in various countreis, people are fomo making accounts at coinbase. And guess what all coins they see when they reach there other than btc. This is the reason of rising value of etherium and litecoin.

It might have something to do with ETH congested network and BTC being costly. Most newbies don't realize they can divide btc in small parts so they are buying ltc instead. Price correction is also due for ltc so I think it's just getting to where it should be.

It maybe happened due to the bitcoin and ethereum transaction issue in recent days the fee is getting higher and the transactions were in pending status for days so people may turned to some coin with fast transaction and cheap fee.Recently coinbase also shut down their site because many new users so this also maybe a reason many new crypto users in recent days.

I think the reason why the value of litecoin has increased is because of bitcoin. Little investors like myself can't afford the huge transaction fees of bitcoin. Bitcoin has forgotten the reason why it was made in the first place. The founder made it to opt out of centralization and humongous fees of internatiinal money transfer. Liyecoin is the answer to the woes of little investors that's why instead of buying bitcoin, litecoin is next in mind.

Because Bitcoin and Ethereum facing a lot of problem with its network,so the people chose litecoin to be the substitute coin because its transaction speed is better than the BTC and ETH.

Umm i really don't know how it went like this ,lol, but many people thinks that Litecoin now one of the reliable coins in the market. Seems like it'll continue rising.

I had the feeling that litecoin will continue go up and up.
First is because LTC seems to the answer when some BTC holder release their BTC due to recent price stop.
Second, just look at how quick and less fee LTC be compared to BTC. Last time, I send a small amount of BTC($140) with $18 fee.
Finally, it seems people accept LTC and ETH is two main alternatives right behind BTC

There are a lot many reasons for LTC Pump in the recent days, few to mention are as follows:
1. Implementation of Lightning Network is coming close
2. Lightning Network successfully tested on MainNet
3. New Marketing push on LTC
4. Charli Lee on CNBC
5. LTC is always considered as the silver of cryptocurrency
6. When people are unsure about BTC or ETH, LTC is the token they found refuge in.

Because of the congested networks of the BTC and ETH people got triggered to switch to litecoin with its fast transaction speed.

The coin has been fluctuating wildly and it is very unpredictable. As others mentioned, it is a great coin for transferring funds out but the value never really went up so high. I got in a bit high and I am holding bags at the moment. I'm sure it will go back up but it is hard to figure out when. I hope you are careful if you are trying to get in on LTC.

However, in the long term, I think that it is very undervalued compared to BTC but the value is relevant to what BTC is. If BTC crashes then everything crashes. AND No, Bitcoin Cash or BCash or whatever that nonsense is won't save it.

Because litecoin is much cheaper than other significant coins. Many people then bought litecoin and then now its price skyrocketed.

I personally don't think people buy a coin for it's lower pricerange, they could've just bought 0.05 bitcoin for example. What I think the reason is, after reading all the replies on this topic, is the slow transactions and high fees on Bitcoin and Ethereum the past few days. Litecoin is the best choice after them, so many people started using Litecoin.

it is evident that altcoin is increasing in number of users. so that altcoin demand in the cryptocurrency market is increasing. other than that in my opinion btc price factor is so expensive to make someone look for other investment alternatives.

I mean why shouldn't people use it instead of Bitcoin? Transactions are 4 times faster than with Bitcoin and there's no drama in the community as with Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is useless now. You cant buy or spend bitcoin its not for daily usage but litecoin has seg2x and its cheap for spending.

Quick transactions are very good. But waiting for Litecoin futures contracts in my opinion gave a bigger push to the price increase. The price began to grow long before the release of the news. My opinion about this fast rise is more investors try to pump the litecoin because transaction fee are low.Same Ethereum value is now $700 I think this is because more people know about cryptocurrency and invest in it. I know people who buy bitcoin at current price to make profit if the price will go up same with altcoin but I think the opportunity to buy litecoin,bitcoin or other altcoin is now over the price is to high.

I agree. It's cheap, so people can easily deal with it better compared to bitcoin, especially right now that it commands a very high price point. Also, I think many altcoin developers are pumping their altcoins right now to counteract the negative effect of the current bitcoin surge. Many altcoins have died out and some are in a stand still and is not increasing in value any time soon due to the continued rise of bitcoin that gets so much attention in the market. I think it's a good thing to see changes like this because many people deal with altcoins more than bitcoins because it's cheaper, plus the fact that many ICOs repay services through it as well. Keeps the market alive, I think.

Because LTC has Lite performance for cryptocurrency. Means low fee, fast process.

3. Coinbase/GDAX only offers BTC, ETH, and LTC. Coinbase is the primary fiat ramp for American investors, so they have to choose one of the three and LTC looks "Cheapest" to new investors.

It's a great coin that is constantly getting better. Also it has easy access to people on coinbase.

Looks like some big trendy or organized funds has been injected into the market in and off again these days, they are picky as well you could see bitcoin always been targeted and it's price was too high to pump further, Litecoin on the other hand being the alternative version of bitcoin, acceptable and widely trade-able across platform, was being targeted as a source of pump and people are not losing their hands quickly on the fact Litecoin is as much useful as bitcoin when it comes to popularity with lower transaction fees, its much lower price explain why its growth percentage could be that high i guess.
