Title: Bitcoin Core - Wallet Recovery
Post by: rstrat on December 12, 2017, 09:19:59 PM
Hello all,

I found an old wallet.dat and I think that the wallet may have some coins. On my Bitcoin Core 'Transactions' tab I have one transaction with the following details:

Type "Received With"

Status: 0/unconfirmed, not in memory pool
Date: 27/06/2013 13:08
Credit: 0.005000000 BTC
Net amount: +0.005000000 BTC
Transaction ID: ***
Transaction total size: 524 bytes
Output index: 1

The wallet is still syncing (last block Oct 2012).

Do you know what this means? These coins will be available?

Thank you!

It means that you may have a small amount of coins in your wallet.
0.005BTC isn't a large amount but it's probably something that's a nice find - as it's worth $75 I think.
Can you post the transaction ID that you have blanked out so we can check to see if you do indeed have those coins? There is just a privacy issue there, nothigh can be gotton from your TX id or bitcoin address that can be used to spend from.

Hello Jackj,

The Transaction ID is: 85f198bd1c8cd6f389b30ead2b6693390da4ae73f82d3a7aa3b3d85321d09880

I wasn't able to find anything on blockchain.info or live.blockcypher.com. I guess that the coins are not in my wallet, right?

Thank you!

Yes. The transaction was never confirmed and cleared out of the mrm pool.
If you know how to rebroadcast it then do that and see if you can get that to work (I would help but I'd need you to export the transaction in some way).

I've seen threads like this more often recently, and most of the time the wallet.dat belongs to an altcoin.
Is there any chance you were into altcoins 4 years ago? My first guess was Litecoin, and 85f198bd1c8cd6f389b30ead2b6693390da4ae73f82d3a7aa3b3d85321d09880 (https://live.blockcypher.com/ltc/tx/85f198bd1c8cd6f389b30ead2b6693390da4ae73f82d3a7aa3b3d85321d09880/) shows up on that blockchain.

The transaction has 2 outputs: 0.01072006 and 10.05, both spend already.

Credit: 0.005000000 BTC
Net amount: +0.005000000 BTC
There is no 0.005 in this transaction though. I can't imagine the same txid exists on another chain, so basically I don't know what happened.
