Title: Bitcoin social networking?
Post by: cunicula on July 03, 2011, 11:32:44 PM
It makes me kinda sad that bitcoin cannot enter the facebook world (since facebook would never allow this). I think the gambling games we are seeing on the forum would be more popular if they could be embedded in facebook.

Given how prominent social network sites are in web use patterns, does it make sense to have a social networking site based around bitcoin?

Facebook wants to use facecash and probably ban gambling games as they are bad for their image.

@kiba
The potential for organization that this forum isn't reaching is there. Ignoring it is hurting the community. A more social layer would allow this to expand as we would like. Everybody wins when that happens. I appreciate your paper btw. Thoughts on going daily?

Facebook is not the only social networking. Actually, in order to stay on-topic, let's think of a decentralized social network: Diaspora. What would the possible interactions between Bitcoin and Diaspora be?

(For starters, you might want to keep an eye on the #bitcoin (https://joindiaspora.com/tags/bitcoin) hashtag on Diaspora.)

FYI, the people running diasp.org (a high-traffic Diaspora server) announced on their blog (http://b.diasp.org/donations/) that they accept donations in bitcoins.

Nefario started a thread on this a couple of weeks ago: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=37433.0

Yeah, I think a Bitcoin-oriented social network would be a really nice addition / alternative to the forums. If there's enough interest I'll set one up using StatusNet.

Hackers and thieves will use this network to know who to attack next. Sounds like a huge mistake.
