At this point, KNC or BitFury look like the best bets. They're cheaper, and use less power. BFL still isn't bad at all, tho, and I might order from them again.

I would stay away from the USB Block Erupters unless you can find them for cheap. They are way too overpriced for what you're getting.

Just to be clear, "profitable" is open to interpretation and you may never see a ROI equal to your original cost. But, then again, you may. Flip a coin.  ???

It depends on what price you get em :)
I got one for 0.89BTC, other words for a freaking cheap price.

They may take a year to earn thereself back but as BTC value probably rises, I think it'll earn the investment back with a fat profit.
I also have 850Mh/s power to help boost the ROI, or actually, have the device paid back in about 22 days :)

My friend, you are not entirely right, the Block Erupters are available NOW, not in a month, that helps alot.. Also, if you search properly, they go for as cheap as .89 BTC.

USB miner bought for 0.89BTC will never mine that back.
And what's behind the reasoning 'if BTC value rises'? You still won't have the same amount of BTC you paid for.

realestone: I suggest you mine scrypt-type coins instead.  See coinchoose.com for a list of options, then just google for a pool.

But I'd have chosen 5850's too if I had started mining earlier.  They're still the fastest GPUs to pay for themselves.

As for BFL jalapenos, orders from oct 27 2012 just shipped out yesterday, and their COO just promises full shipout of all orders up to July 6 by end of Sept.  Earliest you might receive a jalapeno ordered to day might be October, or you might need to wait until next year for it.  At this time, the only products I would consider (but maybe not yet order) are KnC's.

Well, if you ask about this one. Normally one cannot do anything, you need at least two to do.

There are many options, but not stable. Your bet is, obtain bars, use pyramining to power yourself up.
