Title: Charities accepting Bitcoin Post by: Seal on July 18, 2013, 07:18:54 AM Hi all,
I'd like to get a better idea of how wide the adoption rate is for Charitable giving using Bitcoin. If you know of a Charity accepting bitcoin can you post it below. I'm hoping to use this information to put together a portal for those who would like to use their bitcoins for Charitable giving. For larger charitable organisations (who are reluctant to use bitcoin) I would like to use a payment integration service to forward fiat donations from the portal directly to the charity of choice. I run Sean's Outpost Homeless Outreach. We're pretty much a bitcoin fueled charitable organization. I spoke at Bitcoin 2013 this year on Bitcoin for Charities and Non-Profits. Here's the youtube of the talk... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOlKcpryJuc I pretty much just run this outreach and try to convince other charities to take bitcoin. I'd be happy to assist in anyway I can. Jason King Sean's Outpost Title: Re: Charities accepting Bitcoin Post by: StarfishPrime on July 19, 2013, 01:26:21 AM The Sea Shepherd Society does. Great org.
There's a thread on here with the idea to name their next ship the "Satoshi Nakamoto".. if forum members could generate a sizable donation... Title: Re: Charities accepting Bitcoin Post by: CoinsForTech on July 19, 2013, 02:00:38 AM I posted in another thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=257587.msg2754807#msg2754807) about the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). They are one of the organizations I am passionate about and donating to regularly too.
You can read more about theme here. (https://www.eff.org/about) They even thanked the bitcoin community a couple of months ago. Hi Rawted, yeah I'd love to hear more details about it. While I support the efforts of bitcoin backed charities, I'd rather forward any bitcoin donations to already established organisations. |
