Title: Cryptsy FTC disappearance. What did I miss?
Post by: peonminer on July 18, 2013, 04:37:01 PM
 ???

Official statement or did Cryptsy just make all users' FTC disappear?

If you looked / asked on Cryptsy chat, Vern is in the matrix, looking into the issue right now.

FTC is under a 51% / fork for the 4th or 5th time.

'There exists a Feathercoin user holding about 1/5th of all coins with the intent and capability to execute a highly damaging attack to the network and its users''

This is unfortunate for any FTC holders..

But the slides are really cool  ;D

So can FTC be considered dead? Finally?

No worries about the exit. FTC was always considered as the first (or at least one of the first) copy-paste clone of LTC. The one with the silliest name too... It's not a shame if it will evantaully vanish from earth..

I hope people that think about FTC investments have the decency to Google it. I have a feeling you will not notify clients/customers via UNOCS of the issues regarding FTC.

Third result after Googling is an article one of the other attacks.

http://www.coindesk.com/feathercoin-hit-by-massive-attack/ (http://www.coindesk.com/feathercoin-hit-by-massive-attack/)

The article fails to mention that the reason the coin held value and did so well is that it was artificially inflated during the attacks. Something I personally heavily investigated and found plenty of information on.

Not really drama just people suppressing information in order to make financial gains. Something currently worth over $800,000 USD is not terribly small.

Yes, there is a user. Its name is Btc-e ::)

Seriously, if you are trying to scare people than at least try something innovative.

That explains a lot. I was already wondering why my earnings were 50% lower than expected the last two days.   :-\

Are you on a pool or soloing?

There was a lot of orphans so you would get a lot less in payouts.

Is this one of the higher-hashing-power scrypt chains?

Does dividing up the world's scrypt-hashing power among many chains, instead of using merged mining to secure using the same hashing however many scrypt chains are "needed" or "desired", really seem to be helping a whole lot, or is it merely exacerbating the "blockchains are insanely expensive to secure" problem?

Oh yeah that had a bunch of orphans, and they like to destroy the blocks after they get orphaned. They will display for a period of time and then completely disappear so you will never know they were even there. I don't understand why they would remove them.

The "rare" ones are particularly laughable - idiots out there actually pay a premium for them.  Never mind that two parameter changes and a recompile can create an infinite number of new and "rare" coins.

I suppose a fool and his money are easily parted

So basically cryptsy is holding our coins hostage while others keep using them and trading them on other exchanges

I say - give our F** coins back!!! :D

if cryptsy doesn't want to list them - that is fine, but holding coins hostage is not fine!

Not sure but post the fork, I can't mine FTC anymore. Keep getting Rejected shares relative to "unsupported operand type(s)". Not sure what happened.

There is lots of updates on FTC forum. They are looking into the issue http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?topic=2847.30 (http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?topic=2847.30)

If you read on there:

The timing is too perfect to not be perfect:

1. The 20th is the Oxford streaming event that'll certainly give us additional press
2. The 23rd we roll out the (blank) project which is something no other alt coin has in place
3. The 30th is the NYC Bitcoin Conference.

We have a concentrated week and 1/2 of events and we get hit today.
