Title: New mining rig using EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 Post by: meltayef on December 15, 2017, 01:32:17 PM Hello everyone
i'm new to mining and trying to build my first mining rig i have a EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 and i'm going to use 6 RX 570 GPUs for mining i have a few questions is 1000w enough to power 6 cards with the motherboard/cpu/risers...etc or should i just start with 5 gpus second question is, in case it's ok to power 6 cards since the PSU has 6x 8PIN ports for GPUs i can use each to power a single card but then i'm left with powering 6 x risers i still have 6 x 6 PIN ports on my PSU (says SATA/PERF on them) is there anyway to power 6 risers using these ports? since SATA connectors are not safe what should i use? Thank you guys in advance Title: Re: New mining rig using EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 Post by: Vann on December 15, 2017, 01:50:10 PM A 1000 W G2 is enough for up to 5 RX 570's dual mining. If you undervolt the cards and reduce the power limit, a 5 card rig would be ~800 W at the wall dual mining. The EVGA 1000 W G2 has 6 PCI-E connectors. You can use 5 for the VGA power inputs and the other PCI-E connector with two 6-Pin risers using an 8-pin to dual 6+2 splitter cable.

Only connect one riser to each PSU cable. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1-Piece-Dual-SATA-15-Pin-Male-to-Big-6-pin-Interface-Female-Graphics-Video/32831656183.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/ATX-IDE-Molex-Power-Dual-4-To-6-Pin-PCI-Express-PCIe-Video-Card-Adapter-Cable18CM/32839574081.html Title: Re: New mining rig using EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 Post by: meltayef on December 15, 2017, 04:52:33 PM Thank you so much for this quick answer
just one more question. since i'm using 3 6pin ports on the PSU to power those 3 riserz, is there any direct 6pin to 6pin cable or something to avoid using 2-3 converts on the way..since both sides are 6pin why convert to 2x sata/molex then back to 6pin Thank you in advance Title: Re: New mining rig using EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 Post by: philipma1957 on December 15, 2017, 05:00:32 PM Thank you so much for this quick answer just one more question. since i'm using 3 6pin ports on the PSU to power those 3 riserz, is there any direct 6pin to 6pin cable or something to avoid using 2-3 converts on the way..since both sides are 6pin why convert to 2x sata/molex then back to 6pin Thank you in advance yeah buy six of these and ignore the guy above you https://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Sleeved-Extension-Connector-PP07-IDE6BR/dp/B00H45K3QA/ref=sr_1_2? but let me check that psu for you it has 6 pcie cables not sure if all are 2 headed this says they are. so take pcie cable 1 and attach the silverstone extender go to the riser with that and the 8 pin go to the gpu it will do 6 gpus make sure you have 6 pin risers see this link my way you skip the sata all together you use 1 24 pin cable 1 cpu cable 6 two headed pcie cables with the red silverstone extender https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UB67V2648&cm_re=six_pin_pcie_riser-_-17Z-00CS-00002-_-Product https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1UH4R24325&cm_re=evga_1000_g2-_-17-438-010-_-Product Learn more about the EVGA 120-G2-1000-XR Model Brand EVGA Model 120-G2-1000-XR Series SuperNOVA 1000 G2 Details Type ATX12V / EPS12V Maximum Power 1000W Fans 1 x 140mm Double Ball Bearing Fan Main Connector 24Pin +12V Rails Single PCI-Express Connector 6 x 6+2-Pin, 2 x 6-Pin SATA Power Connector 10 SLI SLI Ready Haswell Support Certified Modular Full Modular Efficiency 90% (115 VAC) / 92% (220 VAC - 240 VAC) efficiency or higher Energy-Efficient 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Over Voltage Protection Yes Input Voltage 100 - 240 V Input Frequency Range 50/60 Hz Input Current 15A Output +3.3@20A, +5V@20A, +12V@83.3A, +5BSB@2.5A, -12V@0.5A MTBF 100,000 Hours Approvals TUV, CB, CE, FCC, RCM, cTUVus, BSMI, WEEE, RoHS, Compliance with ErP Lot 6 2013 Requirement Dimensions 3.35" x 5.91" x 7.87" Weight 7.00 lbs. i'm not sure i get what you mean tho, it has 6x8PIN cables which will go for 6 gpus as you said for the 6pin slots in the PSU (which i plan to use to power the riserz) only cables that are included with the PSU are 6pin to sata or to molex my question was is there a 6pin cable with 2 male sides. 1 would go to the PSU slot and other directly to the riser the one you posted has one male side, and 1 female side not sure what to do with it if both the PSU and Riser have female ports not sure if my information are fully correct so please let me know if i'm misunderstanding something thank you in advance ---------------------------------- Vann, so you're saying i can use 1 8-pin cable (along with the splitter) to power both the GPU and the riser would that be safe? would the 150w that 8pin provides be enough for both the gpu and the riser? It will outperform on Ethhash but that is so over-mined I have no interest in it. I don't think I'd want a GPU minign rig that brought in 0.001 per day.

I ordered additional molex cables from EVGA and run 6x1070Tis through the 6 PCI-e ports and use 4 molex cables (3 cables to power 6 molex powered risers, and 1 cable to power the motherboard). You can also buy additional 8-pin+6pin cables specifically for the PSU. It's costly, but I prefer the safety of using cables specifically for my PSU and not using any adapters. https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=100-G2-13KL-B9 I don't use Sata cables for powering anything other than 1 SSD.
