Title: Starcoins connects to IRC server? Post by: skaffen on July 20, 2013, 10:55:12 AM I downloaded the starcoin build linked in the alternate cryptocurrencies board at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=259012.0
I noticed there are IRC messages in the debug.log for this program: IRC :irc.cccp-project.net 439 * :Please wait while we process your connection. IRC :irc.cccp-project.net NOTICE AUTH :*** Looking up your hostname... IRC :irc.cccp-project.net NOTICE AUTH :*** Checking Ident IRC :irc.cccp-project.net NOTICE AUTH :*** Found your hostname IRC SENDING: NICK u81EA5DoNvbDHML IRC SENDING: USER u81EA5DoNvbDHML 8 * : u81EA5DoNvbDHML IRC :irc.cccp-project.net NOTICE AUTH :*** No Ident response IRC :irc.cccp-project.net NOTICE u81EA5DoNvbDHML :*** Banned Temporary K-line 4320 min. - [G][netsec] [u81EA5DoNvbDHML!~u81EA5DoN@124-<my hostname>: u81EA5DoNvbDHML] has been matched to a known bot pattern r#367 (Compromised hosts.) - Visit http://abuse.rizon.net/akills/lookup?ip=<my IP>&drone for more information. (Akill ID: D4KOTELZLM) (2013/7/20 03.00) This seems very strange to me. Is this coin software just a wallet stealer or something similar? EDIT: After doing a quick search, it seems that the bitcoin software uses IRC to bootstrap: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Network#IRC I guess starcoin is doing the same, after all it's another clone of the bitcoin software. #relieved. Title: Re: Starcoins connects to IRC server? Post by: Mike Scofield on July 20, 2013, 11:07:10 AM Sounds like you have been trojan'd but I can't say for sure. The reason is because you got k-lined (banned). Have you been banned or been to that irc network prior? It looks like a botnet has used your information to log in, and possibly did something wrong or spammed or w/e it did. Botnets can take over your PC and use it without you really knowing or during idle time. I would do a virus and adware scan asap.

You can turn it off by putting noirc=1 in your coin.conf file. Title: Re: Starcoins connects to IRC server? Post by: jonoiv on July 22, 2013, 02:32:55 PM i have the same line in my debug file.
Did you manage to get the wallet in sync? because no matter what i do i get 0 active connections. I have made verious changes to the .conf file and change IP, used other PC's etc. but the wallet will never sync. |
