Title: New to Bitcoin? Live in British Columbia?
Post by: The Bitcoin Co-op on July 20, 2013, 01:19:16 PM
Hey new Bitcoiners,

We are the Bitcoin Cooperative. We are based out of Vancouver, and our central mission is Bitcoin outreach. We have a free Meet Up and host free Meet Up events, where you can learn about Bitcoin from early adopters at parties, networking dinners and presentations (http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/). It's easy to join, and we answer all your questions and provide free technical support. We convinced a bunch of great restaurants and pubs to accept bitcoins, and have a network of people who can sell you some for CAD$.

Come visit us! We want to meet other Bitcoiners and build a vibrant Bitcoin community in Canada. We already get you deals and discounts for paying with bitcoins and supporting the Bitcoin economy. Soon we hope to organize some charitable outreach programs, and maybe get an embassy of sorts. There's one in Montreal, already, but the flight is pretty long. :P You can learn more on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/bitcoincoop. We also organized a Bitcoin student club at SFU, if you happen to be a student there.

Cool! I saw you posted it already. I'll remember to register and do some perusing. I'm aware that there are already larger Meet Ups in some other Canadian cities, and we thought it strange that Vancouver should be lagging behind, given all the game companies and programmers around here, and how hippie/anti-establishment we're stereotyped to be. I think we're finally taking off, now.  ;D

Personally, I've heard a lot about Meet Up in Toronto, and I think a couple things in the prairies. I'm also aware of the Montreal embassy, and the Bitcoin Alliance. I would love to talk to any of them. The Canadian population is very spread out, which means we're not really competing with one another. I don't even speak French, for example. I think our central activities will be confined to BC for a while, but if there are places that nobody is reaching and/or somebody needs help getting the community together, I think we would consider helping to develop that. We have some very useful connections and resources, although many of them are useless outside the Vancouver area.

BC makes the best a lot of things. I didn't think it was the bitcoins that made us famous, though. ;) Are you actually BC Hydro, by the way? I didn't know they take bitcoins.

Silverfuture: thanks for your interest. Please party with us. Or just network with businesses and professions, I guess.

Coinguy: We are going to be active on both this forum and yours. We're not too worried. We'll do our part to take over BC, and together we can all conquer the Canadian financial system.  8)

No, I just turn BC hydro into bitcoins. Way better than turning water into wine. ;)

Haha, a miner? You know, SFU has free electricity. We installed a Bitcoin club there; got a student on the inside with dorm access and a backpack. Just saying  ;)
