Title: Ripple (XRP) to be added to Coinbase?
Post by: CryptoExp on December 16, 2017, 11:07:27 PM
There are rumours that XRP will be added to Coinbase, who claimed they would look to add some altcoins to their list for next year.

What evidence is there that it will be Ripple, apart from the fact that it has the 4th highest market cap?

Coinbase makes money on transactions. They can be expensive or cheap, but they do not change depending on the coin. Since the company disclosed how it calculates the commission, it became clear that the commission for Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum transactions is calculated in one way, so future coins will be based on the same structure. This means that if Ripple is cheaper, faster and more centralized, Coinbase will receive more profit per transaction than Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum transactions. As we know, in business, margin matters. It seems that adding Ripple will increase the Coinbase margin.

As far as i know coinbase makes money on buy in and cash out, transactions fee are up to the chain so are ininfluente(I may be wrong), If they declare they are considering adding "some" coin Ripple sounds very probable to me.

Here are the requirements for the new cryptcurrency https://www.gdax.com/static/digital-asset-framework-2017-11.pdf
And Ripple just failed on requirement 1.1 - decentralization.

So I would exclude Ripple from the list.

I think adding Ripple to Coinbase would be a smart move on their part as they would make a lot from fees.
we would also see a nice bump in price if they do.

This is good, thank you for sharing this, a lot of people were not aware of the requeriments that coinbase has.

But you should know that Gdax is an exchange, coinbase is a wallet (they both are connected, but they are not working on the same protocol)

Here are the requirements for the new cryptcurrency https://www.gdax.com/static/digital-asset-framework-2017-11.pdf And Ripple just failed on requirement 1.1 - decentralization.

Ripple is descentralized, maybe a fifty-fifty because it has been manipulated by banks, but it is still a coin that everybody loves.

Why wouldn't they add it to coinbase? A lot of people would hype this coin and it can increase much more than the recent price.

I'm thinking so. Being the #4 market cap, working with the banking industry, and solving real world problems, makes this a prime candidate. I'll post a few pros from my blog.

Market Cap is roughly 29B at the time of writing (15 Dec, 2017). This places them at the #4 spot currently in all of the cryptocurrency market.
Ripple’s white paper is very meticulous. They tell you everything you need to know about the project from both a basic and advanced perspective. They give you a thorough vision of where they want to go with the project and why you should invest your resources in working with them.
It makes processing international payments a lot cheaper and easier.
It can deal with 1000 transactions per second with zero latency. Example: If no direct exchange is available when transacting between 2 different currencies at a specific time, then you could just use the XRP (Ripple Coin) to pay.
Ripple has partnerships with big names in the financial Industry. These include ATB Financial, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), Reisebank, Santander, UniCredit and UBS. Most recently, Japan Bank Consortium and two of South Korea’s largest banks.

Thanks for sharing, interesting information and will be good to see how it works..

Any idea how much we can expect one coin to cost and how long would you advise holding for please?
Im considering buying more however with limted funds not sure if funds will be better somewhere else..
some have projected ripple to cap out at around 1-3$ much later with very valid reasons for it mainly due its ability to be manipulated..

From conbase's side, this would be an amazing income chance for them but they need more infrastructure and client support. For users, this is again great to have a chance to buy bitcoin from such reputable platform.

well they already said they will not add any ICO coin so that cuts down their options in the top 20

Yeah, I know. But I assume whatever listed on Coinbase will also going to be listed on GDAX and vice versa.
Is just my opinion, I just think that the decentralization problem is a huge deal....well we never know. As of know, I see Bitcoin Cash, Monero(may fail due to compliance obligations), Dash and NEM as the more likely candidates.
Anyway, I am satisfied as long as it isn't Bitcoin Gold.

I'm sorry but Ripple is NOT decentralized,
*All validator nodes are centralized, the consensus is Ripple not you not me not everyone so i don't agree.
*60% of the coins supply is held by Ripple inc
*20% of the coin supply is held by the founders what should i say more ? it's not even a cryptocurrency. it's a centralized replicated database nothing more

Ripple is a distributed network, that is, transactions occur immediately throughout the network, and since this is also a peer-to-peer network, it is not subject to systemic risks. Ripple does not boil down, unlike Bitcoin and its counterparts, but each transaction destroys a small amount of XRP, which keeps the system from growing.

I don't think there's anything official but it's widely expected to be ripple, dash and bitcoin cash, at least that is what I have heard. All coins added will surely enjoy a nice boost from these filthy casual investors  ;D

It is possible that such a decision to include ripple in the list of coins traded on the exchange is accepted taking into account the fact that starting from the new year, an association of 61 large banks will implement their project to use this coin to service banking operations to ensure the speed of money transfers within this union of banks. In view of this, the course of this coin should increase.

Bank are using ripple net not XRP, if you have worked and known the banking system you would know that they can't use a volatile coin for settlement, at best a XRP bis token will be created to do that between banks, this token will be available only on the private ledger hence not tradable whatsoever.

Ripple is basically a crowdfunding platform for banks,

As you pointed out correctly that these are mere rumors that ripple will be added to coinbase. There is no certainty to this statement. Could go both ways. But if you are not into ripple already I would not buy this rumor.

well, coinbase has to first of all work on their platform that has been suffering from DDOS attacks in times of heavy usage. If that is not done before the altcoin is added I'm afraid the current problems they face will just worsen with time.Adding Ripple wont be a bad idea as it is a fast growing currency with a wide adoption.

If Coinbase does make XRP the next crypto of choice what can we see in price/value for XRP? We saw how the new money flooding in chose LTC as the coin of choice because it was the cheaper of the three.

The thing i havent heard much about is nitcoin cash but isnt that a lock to be added to Coinbase? Their last update on Aug 30 said all customers would be credited on or about Jam 1st 18 and that cant happen without it being added right?  Ripple would be very likely if not for the ventralized control others mentioned. I think Dash has a. Ery good chance and possibly Monero. Finally i think Vardano has a legit shot as well. Would be great to see at least 3 of these 4 added in early 18... In addition to bitcoin cash.

Ripple is up because there are a lot of newbie investors who don't even know what a marketcap is, or the supply/price correlation therefore they just throw their money on something "cheap" and thaaat's it. The day Jed throw 2 billion of XRP in the market everyone will cry, or maybe cris larsen with his 7 billion XRP lool

Ripple is a bankcoin, made by bankers for bankers. And if you think you are going to make money from now on with Ripple you are too naive
The gdax rules are clear, "Decentralized", Ripple is not so game over and stop fomoing like a child

interesting comments and much to consider
when the valuation for ripple a few years from now is expected to be between $1-3 and current price hovering around $0.70ish

thinking it might be better to invest when the price lowers more with a long term plan.. although keeping in mind whats mentioned already the price can easily drop if more are fed into circulation so i'm getting the assumption it will be a bumpy ride in terms of price volatility..

However if rumors about Coinbase introducing Ripple are true then we can expect a sharp increase in price right? And maybe if we purchased some with the intention to hold long and sell some when the price is high as have a feeling once it does more coins will be introduced which will lower the value again..

Any thoughts, planning to buy some more when the price lowers..

They have already show the escrow for the rest of supply. So, people should stop talking so much about how many coins could go to the market because that will not happen anytime soon. Ripple is a bank coin, and definitely, centralize. They have a propose totally different from the other projects. But it will be worth a lot more than it is today so if you wanna speculate, it is a great choice.

And coinbase will send the price to Venus.

Ripple is very different from other cryptos, but for that reason it will go up tremendously in price. And yes, getting listed on coinbase will take it to Mars like Bitcoin Cash today. I don't believe it will happen until mid January, so get it now while the price is still very low.

The coinbass attitude towards altcoin can even be described in terms of hostility, which is very strict, so I think XRP landed on coinbass is unlikely. Maybe I am wrong.

I think it would be huge to all Ripple holders. As of now, Ripple is an undervalued cryptocurrency with a lot of room to grow in many years to come. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) was recently added to Coinbase, and it was a good thing for them too.

There is no doubt that Ripple is going to be huge next year. With a little amount of Ripple in my hands, I'm gonna hold them.

I bet Ripple fan boys are hurt now.
As I said before, there is no way GDAX/Coinbase is going to add Ripple as long as Ripple fail on requirement 1.1 - decentralization.

Even Ripple themselves acknowledge that they have centralization issue!. (https://ripple.com/dev-blog/decentralization-strategy-update/)

Several possible adoption of many other coins may be made in the future. So the rumor is not only with ripple as the coinbase compagny known by its fast growth and trust third part services. This will be hard to tell but the quality of it having a steady growth and even its adoption by banks makes it a potential coin for adoption on coinbase.

I have heard this before. But I think it might be true. Ripple has locked up tokens (like they are preparing to join Coin Base) to bring down their supply. They are the number four coin on coin market cap. Also, since more people are trying to get on to crypto Coin Base will need to add more to supply the demand of buying. Their competition will take them out if they don't.

For me it will not. That is just rumors to pump the xrp. There are many fake news about different coin, that will be listed listen things. It is just to pump, so there will be more buyers and after that, it will dump. So be careful.

a price of +2$ is very unlikely, we can't stop talking about the coins held by Ripple and the founders  (20% !! of the coins are held by the cofounders)
and btw congrats newbies you just made Ripple worth 0.5 trillion, so buy buy XRP tokens lol you really believe banks are going to buy XRP for settlement and make you rich  :o

Ripple Inc. is aware of this problem: they recently launched a liquidity program. Since Ripple Inc. owns about 2/3 of total XRP supply – with an implied valuation of $45-50 billion based on current spot prices – they are deliberately discounting their service at a significant rate to entice their customers to use XRP rather than BTC. This artificial liquidity is just - artificial. It will run out. This will maintain a floor of liquidity for XRP in the short term, but there’s just no way for this program to provide the liquidity necessary to exceed that of the global reserve

Quote
Unfortunately for XRP holders, the probability of XRP becoming the global reserve just became substantially more difficult. The CBOE and CME -- two of the world’s largest futures exchanges -- just launched Bitcoin futures trading. The magnitude of this development cannot be overstated. This hinders XRP’s chances of becoming the global reserve currency.
