Title: Thinking about getting started mining bitcoins for fun Post by: Shalmon on July 22, 2013, 12:16:17 AM Hi, I have been really interested in bitcoins for a while now, and I'm very interested in mining. I have no BTC and I have been hesitant to convert USD to BTC via the exchanges to purchase mining equipment. However, I am realizing that if I want to get started with this hobby, then I have some small opportunity to do so by purchasing USB Miners now, as I was not in the game, and lacking the BTC to preorder anything fancier a long time ago. I understand the ROI on these isn't all that great, but since I am paying USD and not BTC for them, at least I can have some way of generating crypto. Am I throwing away my money? I am not really trying to "profit", but I don't want to finally get started mining and only crank out $5 a month. Yes, I am aware of the volatile market and difficulty calculators. Also, I'd rather not just buy the BTC and keep them waiting for increase, I like the idea of mining.
What do I need to look for in a USB hub that is used for mining? Title: Re: Thinking about getting started mining bitcoins for fun Post by: EscrowBTC on July 22, 2013, 12:25:48 AM Try to build or buy the best mining rig for your money reserved for this investment.
You will not make 5$/month, but don't think you will make millions. Bigger investments results bigger profits. I don't have a lot of money to invest at this time, that's why the USB Miners are the most realistic starting point for me. I think it would be a fun project, and bring me joy knowing that they were hashing away while I slept, or went to work etc... even if the gains aren't huge. This is more of a hobby than a business venture at this point. I can always scale up as my knowledge and passion increases. Of course I would like to make some of my initial investment back, but I don't expect them to pay for themselves for a long time. I wish I had made a big investment back in the day. I had heard of bitcoins, even read about people building GPU mining rigs, but I didn't really know what they were. If only I had been mining all this time. Always try to calculate risks before invest money in something. You will learn that in time. Also, agree with you fildza, "Invest is a long time profit. You must be patient" |
