Title: How is your investment percentage in crypto
Post by: traderperspective on December 17, 2017, 06:34:43 PM
How much of your total wealth allocated to investments do you place in crypto as a percentage? I head podcast where people are buying up a specific amount every month do dollar cost average and accumulate crypto over the long run.
Do you have a strategy for allocating funds to crypto continuously or have you places a certain amount? In any case, what percentage do you allocate and why? Personally I have around 15% allocated into crypto, but I am looking for arguments to either increase or decrease my exposure.

I started investing in cryptocurrencies in August 17. Since that time I've spent about 20-40% of my monthly income for buying Ethereum, because I stongly believe in this currency.  And it's gives me x10-x20 times more than any bank deposit available now.

At this point, close to 50%, but I never actually 'invested' 50%, it's just that my portfolio has seen significant growth these last few months (as I imagine most of you have), getting to the point that it now represents more than 50% of my net worth.

It's hard to argue for an investment strategy for you, since a lot of things have to be taken into consideration (there's a reason why we have financial planners for this).
- Your income & how steady it is
- The amount of savings and how much of it you're willing/capable of risking
- How bullish you are on the industry

If you have a smaller net-worth but a steady income, you're probably better off investing a larger percentage as in relation that might not be as risky since your income should offset any loss (due to the lower threshhold) in standard of living should the bubble burst at some point rendering your portfolio severely depressed.

If you have a larger net-worth, a smaller percentage should probably be invested (although more capital on a dollar basis instead), since any potential increase will have a smaller positive impact on your standard of living, meaning that you have a smaller incentive to risk a large percentage of your current net-worth due to the upside being lower for you personally since more money would yield less of an improvement in quality of living, but a significant loss could cause a lot of stress.

As of right this moment, 95%. If you asked me a year ago it would have been <20%. I just never saw the need to rebalanced my portfolio. I'm okay with taking on more risk as time goes on.

I'm up 445% since August 14th. That's when I started adding info all in one spot to see how my investments where doing. I've only earned bitcoin and sold it, only bought a couple $100 or $20 here and there, so my investment is basically 0 and I'm very happy with where I am now.

I personally have less then one percent in Crypto, and in my mind this should be what everyone is going on here. You shouldn't be tossing all of your money (networth) around in something like Crypto, that'd be like putting your house for sale, selling it and then putting all of the money into a penny stock -- it's risky and something that you shouldn't be risking for your loved ones, as they rely on this money.

Set a little aside and even think of this money as being lost. So if you do lose it, it won't sting.

When I kicked off decades ago I put in about 35% of the monies I had available to me. It has indeed paid off so far and it's about 99.8% of my net worth now.

Obviously going full kamikaze at the start is silly, but I don't understand people who put 1-5% in. Then again I'm so far gone that I can't conceive of how normal investors think any more.

Right.
In my opinion, every one should consider the case of losing the whole money which is invested in cryptocurrecnies and should put amount of money which is affordable especially in the current situation with that high prices.

It's 5% for me because my income level is really low and I can't put more money in bitcoin due to this reason. If I earned more, I would invest more in bitcoin clearly. This is the chance of our lives! Never miss is while you can still afford.

please.
this is such intangible nonsense thing that many people say it to create fake intelligent image . when i see mens like bill gate begin to speak about how much persentage of wealth he put into special portions like pizza pie this is when i may agree with this ridicule logic  :D
each day percnt wealth change , some monies you are spending to travel some monies you are spend to eat and to live
so if someone say they have put 20 percnt of wealth into special place this cannot be true because this stat must change daily

It's difficult to call what I have a wealth. It's such a small amount :(
Anyway, I have over 90% of it in various investments most of them are cryptocurrencies, but some is in my computer because I need it to be able to work and invest. I have maybe 2% in cash and another 4-5% in a bank. I'm not worried though. Even if I lost everything I'd still have a place to stay at my parents house. ;)

I currently have 40% of my net worth in cryptos. Pretty risky but I'm willing to ride it out.

Around 30% maybe? That's only because the gains have been completely insane though. I didn't put out that much initially, and I've already cashed out a fair amount.

As for OP increasing or decreasing their exposure, it really depends on their current financial standing. If you can afford to do dollar cost averaging with a good amount, then go for it. I'm only really opposed to people going all-in because at the end of the day, Bitcoin is a speculative asset. Risking everything you have is a bad idea in nearly every context, much more on a speculative market.

I am not a rich person and don't want to be poor as well, so for me, it is around 20% as I don't have so much money as a investment. This 20% is actually not too much money.

I invested a lump sum. I have thought about investing a certain percentage from monthly income.

15% is a large amount. My initial investment was small, but with the great bull run of 2017, my percentage of wealth in Bitcoin has increased. I am not going to rebalance it immediately by selling some Bitcoin.
Caseres had a good idea - invest 1% of your net worth in crypto and carry it at cost. Don't look at the market value in the short-term.

I definitely don't think 15% is enough of your money invested into Crypto, but that is coming from someone that has been routinely screwed over by banks through fees, fraud and other nonsense that puts me at a net-loss with anything fiat; my stock portfolios and investments barely keep up with inflation if they even manage to do that, which is honestly quite rare. Bitcoin has been the only investment that I've ever seen to consistency have spectacular returns even during some of the toughest times for any given country/government/currency at any given time. I have legitimately 80% of my entire worth in Crypto, and It has been that way for years; I've never had a second thought, I've never looked back and I don't plan on changing things anytime soon.

If anything my 80% still might not be enough, I'm thinking about picnicking up a 3rd job just to directly deposit into an exchange to purchase bitcoin with. I'm living like a bitcoin slave now so I can live like a bitcoin king later. I'm sure we all agree, we should've done the same a long time ago, we'd all be better off and I'd bet my life that bitcoin is going to repeat this pattern until it breaks the glass ceiling and shows us how impressive the future can really be.

Like many others, my investment started as something lower - like 10%-20% and thanks to the recent bump in prices it's grown to represent the majority of my assets.

As to putting more money into crypto though, I'm more conservative. I buy a small amount every day (dollar cost averaging) as a passive investment to make sure I'm buying at the average price.

This doesn't make any sense, how can it be 80% of your net worth for years? As the value has gone up, the % has to go up too. Unless you are selling it as the price goes up to maintain 80%.
