Title: Can't Download Blockchain with Windows 8? [solved]
Post by: nightengale on July 22, 2013, 03:35:48 PM
I've tried a few different altcoin wallets on this windows 8 machine, have the firewall disabled, but none of them will download their respective blockchain. I've added nodes, and am seeing live connections to their networks, but the blocks don't download.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix?

For crying out loud don't drop your firewall on a Windoze box.  Also make sure you disable uPnP.

If your using M$ Security Essentials you need to make sure you put in an exception for Bitcoin-QT.exe in M$$E and the firewall, per the readme.

I'm on Win8x64, Win Defender, Firewall on, and Bitcoin-qt has no problem keeping up to date with the blockchain.

I also have port forwarding from my router, but it worked before I did that as well.

I'm embarrassed to write this but will do so because it may help someone else in a bonehead situation.

This is a new machine with a newly installed OS, and the date and time were set incorrectly.

As soon as I set the correct D&T, problem solved.

Thanks for the responses.

I have noticed now in Windoze that if your date and time are out of a range Windows will not update it.  Which is really annoying.

I would like to have it updated regardless.  Some of my machines may not run for a while or the CMOS will reset because of a low battery or whatever.

Good catch though.
