Title: I need advice unlocking Multibit classic wallet
Post by: sutter001 on December 18, 2017, 10:17:47 PM
Hello,

I have a classic Multibit wallet but I don't really remember the password. I do however have a 12 word sentence, that I wrote down. Is there any way I can access the wallet? Thanks.

If you have the 12 words... You don't have a MultiBit Classic wallet... 12 word recovery phrases were used with MultiBit HD.

To restore your wallet... I'd recommend not using MultiBit... Instead, get Electrum, create a new wallet -> standard -> I already have a seed -> click options, select BIP39, enter you seed -> when prompted for a derivation path select m/0'

That is what I found in the release notes: "MultiBit release notes.28 Apr 2014 Version 0.5.18"

Is this MultiBit HD?

No. That is a version of MultiBit Classic. In which case, the 12 words you have are not related to that wallet.

If you don't have the password, you'll need to try something like btcrecover: https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover
