Title: cant see balance from transaction. Installation issues.
Post by: wowiamhere on December 19, 2017, 06:37:22 AM
Hello!

I am new to bitcoin and Armory.
I purchased $1000 worth via Coinbase.

Then I downloaded Armory from
https://www.bitcoinarmory.com/download

Being this my first time,
not realizing how exactly the whole thing works,
(not sure the software was installed successfully nor
configured properly)
- I created a wallet
- I clicked on the wallet and on receive bitcoins
- a window popped up with an address
- I clicked on BACK UP THIS WALLET

After the successful backup,
- I initiated a transfer at coinbase website
- with destination address same as given by wallet
- received a successful transanction

After naively thinking that everything would miraculously sync up
upon my starting Armory,
nothing happened.
- the balance shows: (...)
- "Offline" reads on the bottom right corner

I uninstalled and downloaded
https://btcarmory.com/0.96.3-release/

I restored my wallet with the backup generated.
- the balance shows: (...)
- "Offline" reads on the bottom right corner

I downloaded Bitcoin Core, but it takes a really long time, going on two days now.

I contacted Coinbase to try and cancel the transaction,
but they said that could not be done.
And that in order to receive the funds I would have to make sure to
CLAIM THE ADDRESS.

I don't really know what that means.

Have I lost my investment due to my complete lack of knowledge,
or what is my next step here...

Anybody...

thnx

First step is to "Relax"... your coins are NOT lost :)

Now, you have two options:

1. You can wait for Bitcoin Core to finish syncing, so that Armory (which relies completely on having a full node and full blockchain to work with) can then scan the blockchain for your transaction(s) and then update your wallet balance

or

2. You can export your private keys from Armory and then import them into a lightweight (aka SPV) wallet like Electrum (https://www.electrum.org/#download)

If you wish to export from Armory, do the following:

- Click wallet properties
- Click Backup This Wallet
- Click See other backup options
- Select Export Keys List
- Click Export keys list button
- UNSELECT EVERYTHING
- Make sure only: "Address String", "Private Key (Plain Base58)", "Include unused (address pool)" and "Omit spaces from key data" are selected

You should now get a list of ALL the addresses and matching private keys in your Armory wallet. Find the address and matching private key that you sent the coins to... you should then be able to import the private key to the wallet of your choice.

Thank you for your response!

I will wait for bitcore to finish and see if that does the trick.

As soon as it finishes installing/updating/synching, I will try to refresh and
see if my balance is there.
Else, I will proceed with your import suggestion.

I will post progress as it happens.

I should have done more research before I got into things.

thnx.
