Title: Detected new block
Post by: Yzord on July 24, 2013, 10:11:00 AM
I am a total newbie on BTC since a few months and i like it. Trying to build my first mining rigs and patiently waiting for my Jalapeno to come (if it ever comes).

In the mean while i am participating into Slush's pool. And sometimes there comes a message like "detected new block". Does this mean I detected the new block or one of the pool members?

And i never mined for myself, always been in a pool, but how the heck do you mine for yourself? I am building 2 mining rigs with 6990's and 7950's and hopefully my upgraded Jalapeno is coming soon. According to my calculation i have way more then 10Ghash to play with. Would that be enough for single mining and reaching a change of finding a block?

Thanks for the answers :)

No ;) it only means that there was a block found somewhere by someone

No again :-) there are some mining calculators online and I am sure they would say something like "don't mine solo" ;-) You would need extrem luck to find a block in reasonable time (like in less than 155 days or so)
